Position Summary The internship program is intended to provide training, experience, and a transitional path for prospective firefighters. Success of the program will require a commitment from the intern and their supervisor. Following a successful period of mentorship from both the assigned crew and supervisor, the intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in the firefighter role and be an important participant of the fire department service model. Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age at time of employment offer High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record throughout employment Actively enrolled in a fire service certification program with the ability to obtain all Firefighter certifications within 1 year. Hiring Process The application and resume must be submitted by January 3, 2025 at 5 PM CST. Structured in-person panel interviews will be scheduled from January 6 - January 10, 2025. Consideration will be given for candidates who live more than 2 hours away. Candidates selected to move forward to the next step in the process will be contacted and scheduled for a fire department company activity January 13 – January 17, 2025. Fire Chief interviews will be completed as part of the company activity January 13 – January 17, 2025. Offers of employment are conditioned upon successful completion of a pre-employment psychological evaluation, physical, agility test, drug screen and background check. Tentative first day of employment will be March 10th, 2025.
