The Program Intern is a Limited Term Opportunity for students through structured intern programs at an accredited college/university and follows the guidelines of an agreement or learning plan. Under supervision, the Program Intern maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, while performing work involving the care and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults; and performs other duties as required.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:

Observes and records customers' behavior and offers input concerning the development and follow through of treatment plans, alongside experienced staff.
Transports clients from their home to a location in the community, as needed.
Performs other duties as required.

Thrive Pet Specialty Hoffman Estates offers a clinically oriented Small Animal Rotating Internship. Our brand new facility opened in the northwest suburbs of Chicago in October of 2023, staffed with a team focused on a productive collaborative culture between all of our specialties.
Our location just outside of Chicago provides a diverse caseload from the entire Chicagoland area.
Our interns will have primary case responsibilities along with working with different specialists and our staff ER doctors with increasing primary case responsibility as the year progresses. The emphasis will be on developing well rounded doctors with finely tuned diagnostic and treatment abilities who are well suited for future emergency, urgent care and general practice positions, as well as specialty residency or internship.
Our interns will rotate primarily through Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology and Surgery. The intern will spend about 50% of the time on the emergency service and interns are paired on overnight ER shifts with a senior clinician. Other elective rotations or amount of time spent on other specialties can be customized based on interns goals. Case rounds occur twice daily in hospital led by the ECC team and other specialties. There will also be weekly didactic rounds including journal club, topic rounds, or wet labs. The weekly schedule will generally include 4 longer shifts when on emergency and on ECC. Most other rotations will be 5 shifts / week.
We have full in house laboratory capabilities, 1.5 tesla MRI, 64 slice CT, 5 surgical suites including one orthopedic suite with C-arm capabilities, intensive care ventilator and high flow capabilities available in hospital.
We Expect the Intern to have had experience with the following by the end of the training program:
Appropriate diagnostic and treatment plan for common diseases such as DKA, CKD, AKI, pneumonia, gastrointesintal diseases
Appropriate interpretation of basic and more advanced bloodwork
Procedural competency - abdomino- thoraco- and pericardio-centesis, chest tubes, NG tubes, nasal O2 lines
Surgical competency with assistance in proecures such as enterotomy, gastrotomy, splenectomy, pyometra, GDV
Perioperative treatment of critical cases
Advanced monitoring with telemetry, capnography, direct and indirect blood pressure
Exposure to ICU ventilation
Anesthesia competency

Qualifications
Age:
18 years and older.
Education:
Registered as a student at a four-year university. Meet university requirements for senior student status.
Majoring in Recreation Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Sports Management, Social Work, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum six (6) months experience in a recreational setting, preferably in a recreation department, school district, social services agency or non-profit organization. May be obtained through a combination of volunteer, seasonal, part-time or temporary positions.
Has acquired necessary special competencies in the field of specialization for doing fieldwork.
Must have completed all university requirements for internship placement.
Knowledge:
General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
General knowledge of recreation principles and philosophy within specific area of responsibility.

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities, the Recreation Intern is responsible for completing the requirements set forth by the university and working towards a degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field. About This Role
We are seeking motivated students looking to learn and grow their clinical skills with the help of our talented clinical supervisors. This position is only available to students in the 2026-2027 internship year of a Master level clinical program (social work, counseling, psychology).
Our internship offers an in-depth opportunity to gain clinical experience in multiple treatment modalities and theoretical frameworks with a focus on group therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT and potential additional opportunities with assessment, ERP, trauma, individual work, family, art therapy, and more. Opportunities exist across all Compass clinical programs including Child, Adolescent, Young Adult, Adult, OCD/Complex Anxiety, and Art Therapy.
Our location in Northbrook is our first and largest facility, and consists not only of our widest variety of programs, but also serves as a pilot site for many of our new treatment offerings.

What You'll Do
Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions in PHP and IOP therapy groups including coping skills groups, process groups, experiential therapy groups and more
Attend multidisciplinary rounds (including psychiatrists, teachers, group therapists, primary therapists, family therapists and directors)
Aid in development and facilitation of DBT/CBT/ACT groups in addition to other theoretical frameworks and modalities
Observe and support various clinical modalities including group, individual, and family therapy as well as intake
Have clinical exposure to and learning opportunities within specialty programs and theoretical models which may include OCD and ERP, Trauma and CPT, Substance Use Treatment, Young Child Dysregulated Behavior
Engage in monthly didactic trainings with subject matter experts throughout the organization
Learn about the assessment and treatment of self-harm and suicidal ideation and safety planning
Help with various administrative tasks
Learn to administer and then administer various clinical assessments with patients
Co-facilitate experiential and creative arts therapy groups
Complete progress notes and assist with treatment plan updates
