Progress Rail Machine Operators work with heavy machinery producing railroad track components. They maintain equipment to ensure it operates safely and effectively. Their duties include preparing machinery for daily use, inspecting machinery for safety issues, and producing quality full track panels, turnouts and crossings, as well as build other rail components to customer specifications.

**Key Job Elements:**
- Read/interpret drawings/part specifications and verify/adjust speeds and feeds for optimum machining;
- Make necessary offset changes to be within allowable tolerances;
- Change inserts;
- Verify conformance of part to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as, scales, calipers, micrometers and fixed gauges; Fill out inspection reports as required;
- Clean machined parts to ensure ready for assembly;
- Report all issues in regard to tooling and setup to the supervisor;
- Keep a clean, organized and safe workplace;
- To be punctual, and act in accordance with company policies and procedures.
**Qualifications and Experience:**
Minimum 3 to 12 months CNC multi-axis machine operator experience preferred;
- Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision;
- Must be able to read and write legibly and complete production reports with accuracy;
- Must be able to read and use tape measure;
- Strong attention to detail with ability to inspect rail using measuring devices;
- Must be quality oriented and a team player;
- Must have complete understanding of safe work practices.

Shift: 1st Shift (6:00am - 2:30pm) & 2nd Shift (2pm - 10:15pm) Monday through Friday
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Follows plant safety procedures and guidelines
• Know emergency procedures and what to do in the event of power outages, machine failures, workplace injuries, etc.
• Wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Understand and identifies Lock-out/Tag-out procedures
• Informs supervisor of safety issues; reports any workplace injury or incident immediately
• Actively participates in the D&W safety improvement process/activities, e.g. Hazard Identification, Safety Suggestions, Safety Teams, etc.
• Start machines by engaging controls
• Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur and report malfunctions to a supervisor
• Feed and monitor the speed of machines during the production process
• Performs unskilled production work such as feeding machines and packing a wide variety of products
• Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards
• Maintains his or her work area in neat condition
• Record product, packaging and order information on specified forms and records along with additional documentation as required
• Assists other workers with specific chores as requested
• Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP's
• Supports the Plant's Food Safety initiatives by completing plant required Food Safety training and by implementing / complying with the required practices.
Starting Pay: Range based on experience $20.00-$24.00

About the Role:
As our Finishing Window Machine Operator, you will:
Set up and adjust windowing machines for each production run.
Load paperboard blanks and window film rolls, aligning them to meet job requirements.
Calibrate glue application systems and placement guides to ensure accuracy.
Perform quality checks during runs to verify registration, glue adhesion, and film placement.
Production & Quality
Run jobs at target speeds while maintaining quality standards.
Inspect product for defects such as misaligned windows, glue overflow, scratches, or wrinkles in film.
Complete all production and quality documentation, recording counts, downtime, and waste.
Collaborate with quality control and finishing teams to resolve issues quickly.
Maintenance & Safety
Perform routine preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and part replacement.
Troubleshoot and correct minor mechanical or electrical issues to keep production moving.
Follow all plant safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and housekeeping.
Teamwork & Communication
Work with feeders, packers, and helpers to maximize machine efficiency.
Communicate with supervisors about production status, material needs, and mechanical issues.
Support training of apprentices or new team members when needed.
About You:
You're a fit for the role of Finishing Window Machine Operator, if your background includes:
Experience operating finishing/packaging machinery, preferably in folding cartons or printing/packaging.
Mechanical aptitude with ability to perform setups, adjustments, and light maintenance.
Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret job tickets, work orders, and quality specifications.
Basic math and measurement skills.
Preferred:
Experience on windowing machines.

Education / Training
• HS diploma or equivalent;
• CNC multi-axis training and experience preferred.
Key Job Elements
• Read/interpret drawings/part specifications and verify/adjust speeds and feeds for optimum machining;
• Make necessary offset changes to be within allowable tolerances;
• Change inserts;
• Verify conformance of part to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as, scales, calipers, micrometers and fixed gauges; Fill out inspection reports as required;
• Clean machined parts to ensure ready for assembly;
• Report all issues in regard to tooling and setup to the supervisor;
• Keep a clean, organized and safe workplace;
• To be punctual, and act in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 3 to 12 months CNC multi-axis machine operator experience preferred;
• Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision;
• Must be able to read and write legibly and complete production reports with accuracy;
• Must be able to read and use tape measure;
• Strong attention to detail with ability to inspect rail using measuring devices;
• Must be quality oriented and a team player;
• Must have complete understanding of safe work practices.
