Summary: Progressive Maryland was founded to empower communities to act for social and economic justice by developing leaders and cultivating allies in order to build a grassroots movement with the power to advance economic, racial, and environmental equity. We are made up of over 125,000 individual members and supporters and dozens of affiliated religious, community and labor organizations statewide.
Community Organizer: The Racial and Economic Justice Organizer will work to sustain and expand PMD's economic justice organizing work by organizing low-wage workers, including tipped workers, around issues such as eliminating the subminimum wage and indexing minimum wage to inflation. The Organizer will also identify issues facing low income workers and help to promote programs such as our job readiness training and policies that can raise their incomes. The Organizer builds an ongoing base of grassroots leaders, volunteers, and community partners who identify with and support the mission of Progressive Maryland. The Organizer participates in solidarity in statewide issue campaigns with PMD members from other chapters across the state. The Organizer also builds relationships with allied organizations. Under the supervision of our Campaigns Director, the Organizer works in concert with staff organizers in other jurisdictions to execute grassroots organizing plans that further PMD's programmatic goals.
Responsibilities
Build grassroots power to advance economic justice through canvassing, phone and text banking, and 1-on-1 leadership development meetings with low-wage workers
Recruit, develop, and train people impacted by economic injustice to take positions of leadership with issue campaigns
Recruit, manage, and train PMD members to build community relationships, canvass, and door-knock before, during, and after election season
Use phones, social media, and community outreach techniques to recruit and identify prospective members
Cultivate grassroots donors by creating positive leadership relationships with members
Meet base building and outreach goals, which are tracked and reported in an accurate and timely fashion each week
With the support of the Campaigns Director, develop and implement organizing plans

Qualifications
● Experience leading on a social justice issue and/or progressive electoral campaign
● Direct experience in grassroots community organizing, canvassing, and phone banking

The salary range for this role is $285,500 to $325,500 annually. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The salary range for this role is $285,500 to $325,500 annually. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The actual range and pay mix of base and bonus is variable based upon experience and metric achievement. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. You'll be taking inbound calls from our Spanish-speaking customers which means successful candidates can multitask, have customer service experience, and can navigate through multiple computer systems. This is a remote position; you'll be provided computer equipment and in-depth training.
**Job opportunities**
* **Bilingual Inbound Sales Representative**s share expertise of Progressive products and services to ensure appropriate insurance coverage through benefits selling
* **Bilingual Customer Service Representative**s support customers' inquiries and insurance policy needs by answering questions regarding coverage, rates, billing issues, and general policy reviews while offering additional products
* **Bilingual Claims Representatives** care for customers recently in accidents by demonstrating empathy while setting up new claim reports; you'll also offer customers additional products
**Must-have qualifications**
* A minimum of two years relevant work experience.
* {OR} A minimum of two years post-secondary education
* **Sales only:** Property & Casualty license; if you're not already licensed, you'll have an opportunity to gain it during training (and must remain compliant with licensing requirements as an employee)
* Fluent in Spanish and English (verbal and written)
**Training starts:** March 2025
**Schedule: Most schedules will include a weekend day and evening hours after completion of training**
**Work from home office requirements**
* Designated workspace free from noise and other distractions

* Computer that is provided to you must be physically connected to the router or modem by a cable (no wireless connection)

**Compensation**
* $21.50 per hour depending on the role you are selected for
* Gainshare bonus up to 8% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
* An additional 10% when you work evening or weekend hours
* Performance-based rewards
* Additional $1.00/hour if you are fluent in English and Spanish and hired into a bilingual role
