What Is the Opportunity?

Technical Claims Specialist, Workers Compensation - West Region

Under limited supervision and established practices, responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and disposition of Complex Workers Compensation cases of high exposure and severity. Applies established medical management strategies on high dollar complex claims. Has developed high level of knowledge of Workers Compensation claims handling techniques, a full knowledge of LMG claims procedures and is cognizant of new industry trends and claim handling techniques Uses available data to track claims trends and other claim related metrics.
Candidates should be based in California with California Self-Insured Certification or based in West Region with experience in handling Alaska Workers Compensation claims.
The salary range posted reflects the range for the varying pay scale that encompasses each of the Liberty Mutual regions and the overall cost of living for that region.
Responsibilities
* Investigates claims to determine whether coverage is provided, establish compensability and verify exposure.
* Resolves claims within authority and makes recommendations regarding case value and resolution strategy to Branch Office Management and HO Examining on cases which exceed authority.
* Participates in pricing, reserving and strategy discussions with HO Examining and Examining Management.
* Works closely with staff and outside defense counsel in managing litigated files according to established litigation management protocols.
* Identifies and appropriately handles suspicious claims and claims with the potential to develop adversely.
* Identifies and appropriately handles claims with third party subrogation potential, SIF (Self-Insured Fund) and MSA (Medicare Set Aside) exposure.
* Establishes and maintains accurate reserves on all assigned files.
* Makes timely reserve recommendations to Branch Office Management and HO Examining on cases which exceed authority.
* Prepares for and attends mediation sessions and/or settlement conferences and negotiates on behalf of LMG and LMG Insureds.
* Demonstrates the ability to understand new and unique exposures and coverages.
* Demonstrates the ability to understand key data elements and claims related data analysis.
* Confers directly with policyholders on coverage and resolution strategy issues.
* Coordinates and participates in training sessions for less experienced staff, including both Complex Non-Complex staff.
Qualifications
* A bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience is required
* In addition, the candidate will generally possess 5-7 years of related claims experience with 1-2 years of experience in complex claims
* Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills required

What Is the Opportunity?
Under moderate supervision, this position is responsible for partnering with claim professionals to assist customers. What Will You Do?

* CLAIM PAYMENTS AND EXPENSE PROCESSING: Ensures the proper handling of financial transactions to include: Processes and issues claim payments including outside vendor invoices, attorney expenses, and medical processing fees. Processes and documents returned checks, voided checks and credits. Ensures timeliness and accuracy of all check processing.
* DATA AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Maintains accurate records and information management, such as: Prepares, generates and reviews reports using the most effective technology. Updates data discrepancies identified in reports and systems. Uses management information data to prepare line of business or financial reports. Prepares operational reports for claim professionals and managers. Accurately documents pending and completed work activities using appropriate systems.

This position is posted as an AED, but we have the opportunity to hire a candidate an Account Executive Officer/Sr. Underwriter depending on experience. National Accounts provides casualty solutions for clients with significant risk with coverages such as Workers' Compensation, General and Product Liability, as well as Commercial Automobile Liability. The Account Executive Director (AED), National Accounts will partner with agents, brokers, and customers to provide guaranteed cost and loss sensitive coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. * Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. The book of business owned is comprised of accounts with the highest complexity.

We are seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter to underwrite middle market technology accounts focused on Property & Casualty and Technology Errors & Omissions (Tech E&O). This role combines autonomous underwriting authority with commercial development: you will manage a portfolio of brokers and clients, underwrite complex/mid-to-large risk technology accounts, price risk analytically, and shape product and go-to-market strategy for the technology vertical.
Responsibilities:
Risk Selection: Reviews, rates, underwrites, evaluates, or assesses the business applying for insurance by qualifying accounts, identifying, selecting and assessing risks, determining the premium, policy terms and conditions, obtaining approvals, creating/presenting the proposal to the agent/broker, and successfully negotiating deals.
Agent/Broker Relationships: Demonstrates a high level of responsiveness and focus on supporting Agents and Brokers objectives. Establishes, develops, and maintains successful relationships with Agents and Brokers to facilitate marketing of products, through responsive service, site visits, in person renewal meetings or enhanced knowledge of their customers businesses. Portfolio Management: Manages a sizable and complex book of technology business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying areas of opportunity for improved growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share by making marketing calls to brokers to market and cross market.
Documenting the Deal: Documents files in a way that reflects a solid thought process and decision making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals that comply with state regulations, letter of authority, and underwriting guidelines.
Leadership: Formally guides, mentors, and coaches underwriters and account analysts in both technical and professional skills. Demonstrates an area of expertise and provides regular updates to other underwriters.
Continuous Improvement: Actively participates in continuous improvement by generating suggestions, participating in problem solving activities and using continuous improvement tools to support the work of the team.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience
CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposes
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. What Is the Opportunity?
This position is posted as an AED, but we have the opportunity to hire a candidate an Account Executive Officer/Sr. Underwriter depending on experience. National Accounts provides casualty solutions for clients with significant risk with coverages such as Workers' Compensation, General and Product Liability, as well as Commercial Automobile Liability. The Account Executive Director (AED), National Accounts will partner with agents, brokers, and customers to provide guaranteed cost and loss sensitive coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. This role has the highest level of production, technical, and sales expertise and is a technical resource for the region/business unit. As an AED, you are decisive, detail-oriented, and know how to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. Your ability to independently assess the most complex risk and sell our products in challenging markets will contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers.
What Will You Do?
* Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. The book of business owned is comprised of accounts with the highest complexity.
* Underwrite and skillfully negotiate the most complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
* Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
* Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents, brokers, and customers to market and sell Travelers products with a goal of writing and retaining accounts consistent with our risk appetite. Must be able to travel to such meetings.
* Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills. The sales process to target new accounts has a long runway (6 months to 1 year).
* Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently partner with your Managing Director (MD) to develop region/group sales plans.
* Provide coaching, mentoring, and strategic counsel on underwriting to all levels of underwriters within region or business unit.
