What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a R&D Mechanical Engineer to provide design-engineering support during the full life cycle of surety component development, production, and ongoing surveillance assessment of stockpile devices. These surety components play a critical role in assuring the safety and security of the nation's nuclear deterrent in a wide range of environments including severe accident scenarios. You will work on mechanism components with complex mechanical interactions in assemblies of over 100 custom designed/built piece parts.
As an engineer in the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) mechanisms family, you will touch all aspects of product development from conceptual design and analysis to system retirement. We have a diverse team with wide ranges of skills and experience, and we value critical thinking skills and good mechanical insight. This position is a great opportunity for an early career engineer to forge relationships across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, and make lasting contributions to the safety of our nation's nuclear stockpile.
On any given day, you would be expected to:
Develop and down-select design concepts
Negotiate functional and interface requirements with the next assembly customer

Lead generation and revisions of product design definition drawings using GD&T

About Our Team
We are a mechanical engineering group responsible for safety and security mechanisms (components) for Nuclear Deterrence (ND) applications. We have responsibility for conceptual design, full-scale engineering development, product characterization, product qualification, component production support, and ongoing surveillance. Mechanisms for which we have design responsibility include unique signal strong links, environmental sensing devices, and weapon release detection switches.

Salary Transparency
The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Municipal ProjectEngineer in our Albuquerque, NM office.
Requirements
EDUCATION, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION
The successful candidate's most important qualifications include the following.
Bachelor's degree in a civil or related engineering discipline, required.
Registration and designation as an Engineer in Training (EIT), required.
EXPERIENCE + KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITY (KSA)
Proficient // Solid understanding and substantial experience; works independently and efficiently. 4+ years of professional experience, PE may be required.
Knowledge of standard engineering and scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.
Skills including use of industry-standard computer software for the position
(i.e., software such as, AutoCAD, GIS, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
Ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design + Analysis //
Complete entire design and analysis for a simple project, ensure latest manual and criteria are being met.
Work with project team to ensure tasks design and analysis tasks are coordinated.
2. Compliance + Quality //
Adhere to Company QA/QC processes and procedures and review work by others. Understand general contract language and risk assessments and mitigation.
3. Communication + Collaboration //
Work with supervisor, project manager, task leads, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline and other disciplines.
Participate in meetings and follow up documentation.
4. Training, Learning + Advancement //
Attend internal or external training.
Support onboarding and training various types of staff.
5. Client + Internal Satisfaction //
Work with clients daily, problem solve issues and escalate concerns when needed.
Set and adhere to project schedule, attend client meetings, assist with marketing and project interviews, general understanding of financial management to ensure profitability.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS + ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.
Seated and Standing Position. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation.
Mobility. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, and outdoor environments with potential for uneven surfaces.
Neck Movement. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens.
Repetitive Motion. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard.
Arm Movement. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally.
Object Handling. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder.
Cognitive Requirements. Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of hand and power tools.
Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS
This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
CobbFendley's standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.
WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY
This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
