Position Description: Partner with the BU EHSD, PX, PM and Superintendents to ensure project site compliance with Company Environmental, Health & Safety and risk control policies and procedures. Lead, direct and enforce safety on a single construction project or on multiple smaller projects (not to exceed combined total of $40M) within the business unit's geographic area, based on the safety staffing requirements as defined by Headquarters EH&S*. Identify, eliminate and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and or property damage using job specific safety standards, best management practices, and the Building L.I.F.E. program.

Reports to: Business Unit EH&S Director

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Build working relationships with project staff and Subcontractor Safety Representatives.
* Contribute to the development of the overall project safety program.
* Enforce Safety Program and related policies and procedures and implement immediate corrective actions in accordance with Turner, Federal, State and Local regulations and owner requirements.
* Hold pre-construction planning meeting with subcontractors to review overall site safety program and job hazard analysis for their scope of work, and ensure plans are in place to mitigate risks.
* Ensure proper pre-planning for all activities and tasks for subcontractors and trades.
* Manage time and resource allocation appropriately to provide overall safety leadership to assigned project(s).
* Create safety reports for the project, analyzing metrics and making recommendations for improvement over baseline.
* If applicable, supervise and provide guidance for the development of Project Safety Assistant, communicating clear objectives, goals and related deliverables and holding direct reports accountable.
* Evaluate training needs and make recommendations to subcontractors.
* Actively participate in reducing Project Incident Rates by meeting or exceeding established BU goals and manage regulatory exposures to zero citations.
* Projects located in the greater Houston area and also have a position in Louisiana.

Qualifications: Four year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, engineering or similar with at least five (5) years of building construction safety experience preferred or equivalent education and experience. A minimum of OSHA 30 hour training, First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED training. Demonstrated knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques is required. In addition, achievement of CHST is required within two years of appointment to this position. Demonstrated ability to identify known potential exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions. Demonstrated management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing and train others. Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite programs.

Role Abstract

As the on-site safety manager for Harder Mechanical Contractors, you are responsible for the application of construction safety standards and regulations. Working together with the project management team and field supervision, the safety professional ensures that all work is completed in a safe manner to avoid risk of injury or harm.

Harder Mechanical has an immediate need for a project safety professional to join the team at a project site in the Los Angeles, CA area.

Responsibilities

+ Provides support in incident prevention, including inspecting job site, equipment, onsite training, investigating and authoring incident reports, and providing information on safety standards and work techniques

+ Serves as the on-site Competent Person who performs frequent and regular inspections of the job site, materials, and equipment

+ Oversees additional safety professionals assigned to the project.

+ Surveys the jobsite and provides advice and guidance to site superintendents and site employees engaged in a full range of construction activities including but not limited to confined space, hazardous energy control, fall protection and scaffolding

+ Investigates all incidents to determine origin, root cause, and contributing factors and assists in the preparation of written evaluation reports concerning findings

+ Carries out safety education activities, promoting safety awareness, conducting daily and weekly Toolbox Talks; providing site specific training courses

+ Consults with technical specialists and program managers about changes in work processes and proposed methods to eliminate unnecessary risks and control hazardous conditions

+ Provides employees and managers the training necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively

+ Develops Activity (Job) Hazard Analysis's for all new major work processes or those processes that have the highest injury/illness rates

+ Conducts Personal Protective Equipment assessments as needed

+ Recommends appropriate measures and methods to correct safety deficiencies noted; Investigates hazardous conditions, practices, equipment, etc., to identify and analyze the nature and severity of hazards and the possible remedial actions (elimination, correction, or protection)

Requirements

+ 5+ years' experience preferably in the semi-conductor

+ OSHA 30-hour

+ Possess professional qualifications and knowledge of fall protections systems, electrical safety, permit-required confined spaces, excavation trenching and shoring, scaffolding, hazard communication, accident investigation and reporting

+ Extensive knowledge of State/Local, OSHA laws and regulations

+ May be required to pass security clearance investigation and applicable substance testing requirements

+ Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

+ Site safety protocol requires no facial hair

+ Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is a client requirement

The Duties:

+ Advise on safety and environmental issues in a timely manner.

+ Conduct follow-up investigations on all major accidents.

+ Complete field reports and record any infractions found on site.

+ Must be knowledgeable on 1926 CFRs for Construction, including current articles on 1926 training.

+ Track and analyze job site trends in accidents.

+ Keep all accidents and investigations records current for OSHA and worker's compensation reports.

+ Provide consultation service to employees and subcontractors with regards to safety.

+ Exercise expertise in cranes, rigging, steel erection, and heavy civil construction.

What We'd Like To See From You:

+ OSHA 510 required, and OSHA 500 certification preferred.

+ Construction experience in steel erection, concrete form and flatwork, and wood construction.

+ Understand blueprints and know which phases of construction are compatible and not harmful to one another.

+ Confidentiality is required; the ability to handle confidential information is essential.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and reading comprehension.
