Department: Laboratory Weekly Hours: 24 Status: Part time Shift: Days (United States of America) As a ProMedica Phlebotomist, you will collect products and/or specimens for procedures and perform testing while caring for the patient before, during and after collection. You will perform pre-analytic tasks for sample preparation including centrifugation, decanting, specimen distribution and specimen packaging.
In this role, you will use quality assurance data to enhance services and recommend changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customer satisfaction.
You are required to be familiar with test names and abbreviations and cross-referencing tests to specimen types. You will also be required to follow strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis and use your leadership skills to help train new associates or students.

REQUIREMENTS
* High School diploma or equivalent
* A diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute OR one year phlebotomy experience.

What you will do
Obtain and properly identify blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillary punctures in all age groups (newborns, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics) and patient types.
Access, select, release and print test orders from the electronic medical record system. Resolves unusual or duplicative orders as needed. Transcribes outside orders into the electronic medical record system as required.
Process specimens according to established procedures. Prepare specimens for transport per International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations to other laboratories as needed.
Perform and result waived point of care tests. Maintain quality waived test results by following department procedures.
Instruct patients in proper procedures for specimen collection when necessary. Answer patient questions regarding collection techniques and offers additional resources if patient requests them.
Follow the Phlebotomist Service Standards: (1) Use patient-centric communication; (2) Demonstrate empathetic responses to patients' concerns; (3) Acknowledge wait times and service delays; (4) Protect patient privacy; (5) Demonstrate teamwork with all members of the healthcare team; (6) Follow the organization's and laboratory's professional behavior guidelines/policies.

The Laboratory departments provide many services to our multi-hospital organization and outreach community including blood collection, processing, testing, and reporting of results, spanning all disciplines of laboratory medicine.
Clinic:
St. Charles operates outpatient clinics in three Central Oregon counties. Lines of clinical service including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Medical Specialties, Women's Health, Post-Acute Care, Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Health, Cardiovascular Services and Cancer Services. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Phlebotomist at St. Charles Health System processes laboratory orders and performs phlebotomy procedures/collections with as little discomfort as possible to patients of all ages. This position performs phlebotomy procedures following the standards of practice as outlined in System policies and procedures and while working within the boundaries of the Phlebotomy Scope of Practice. This position does not directly manage other caregivers, however may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.

Responds quickly to codes, traumas, rapid responses, and can maneuver in tight quarters. Performs AHA BLS when asked to participate in the rotation by an RN or MD.
Manages multiple patient types including but not limited to confused, combative, upset, intubated, restrained, psychiatric emergency services on-site and off-site, traumatized, and nonresponsive individuals in varying situations including some that can be visually disturbing.
Has a clear understanding of how to accurately select the correct patient and assign an encounter number.
Registers all patients for laboratory services as ordered by their physician and in compliance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures. Includes collecting payments from patients for specialty kit draws. Selects the correct insurance plan, and sends and reviews eligiblity responses.
Researches tests and diagnostic codes according to billing and insurance requirements, mainly pertaining to Medicare and other government funded insurance programs, according to Medicare Compliance Act; informs patients regarding expenses beyond insurance reimbursement and allows the patient to make decisions as to whether to follow through with lab services based on current guidelines before tests are drawn.
Has a clear understanding of all downtime processes.
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Participation in college level science classes.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
Preferred: Phlebotomy certification through a St. Charles Health System approved accredited agency is highly preferred. The current approved agencies are the following: ASCP, NCA, NCPT, and phlebotomy specific military training programs.

Upon Arrival: Candidates are welcome to park in the visitor lot and enter through the main door, check in at the front desk. Candidates must register for the event. A registration link will be sent to you after application has been submitted.

Position Summary
Under direct supervision by department leadership, performs phlebotomy collection of whole blood and apheresis products. Interacts with donors and coordinators, providing a high level of customer service to deliver an excellent donation experience. Takes pride in and is committed to delivering high quality services. Responsibilities
Follows all DOT guidelines when operating full-size commercial van/Promaster, and safely transports staff, supplies, and equipment.
Travels to other local collection sites, as determined by business need.
Prepares collection site and performs set up, including technology systems (may include quality control).
Performs donor screening (collects donor histories), mini-physical, and phlebotomy.
Observes donors for reactions, provides reaction care and assists other staff in handling reactions if needed. May provide post-reaction care at mobile drives including assessing reactions for recovery, escorting donors, and serving as liaison to coordinate care with host organizations (e.g. high school nurse, drive coordinator).
Conducts automation (Alyx and/or Trima), including recognizing and responding to automation reactions. Recruits and converts donors for automation.
Rebooks donors for future donation appointments.
Understands and performs to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
Recognizes when the customer is distressed and responds appropriately with tact. Creates a safe environment for donors and staff members.
Treats donors with customer service excellence, presenting a positive image. Responds to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints with a timely and complete response and escalates to leader when appropriate.
May prepare and pack units for transport.
Maintains product integrity and ensures proper identification of all donors, performs routine maintenance on equipment, and completes department records as needed.

The target salary is based on internal averages. Versiti sets salary ranges aligned to local markets in which the job is performed. Compensation decisions take into account internal salary averages and differentiation based on education, experience, skills, and performance.
