Promega leads the world in biotechnology by providing reagent tool kits and integrated systems for scientists to use. In order to be able to provide the best tools for those scientists, Promega fosters a welcoming environment where all employees feel valued and trusted.
Diving Into the Values of Promega
Promega has built a culture around celebrating every success (tiny or large). That, in and of itself, is cause for celebration. Every individual employee is celebrated regularly through the means of several social events throughout the year. You may be thinking the culture at Promega is just one big party that is ongoing throughout the year.
While it's not, the company is committed to encouraging employees to form strong bonds with each other and if that means having to let your hair down every now and then so be it. Instead of an ongoing party, the environment at Promega is a place where employees feel motivated to dig deep into their creativity to come up with fresh ideas.
Team Bonding
The Making of a Close-Knit Community
At the heart of Promega are the connections that are built between the individuals who work there. To inspire these bonds, the company hosts several team-building activities throughout the year. At Promega, you are working on a team that feels more like family. Promega is committed to helping you find your second family.
Every year when Oktoberfest rolls around, you better believe Promega is going to celebrate. As part of the celebration, employees have the opportunity to brew their own beer or cider that everyone can sample. In addition, the company also hosts a quarterly art show for employees to show off their talents, alongside other artists.
But the company doesn't just host events. The Promega team in Italy recently celebrated 20 years by visiting Etna, a volcano in Europe. The newest Promega team, Promega India, visited Bali together for a team building trip. Additionally, the company has their own band called "Lead Generation." The band is made up of 45 Promega team members who perform throughout the year at company functions.
Take Action
Get Paid to Be a Good Person
Fair warning, this is going to sound too good to be true. Employees at Promega are encouraged to volunteer 5 business days out of the year. That's right, you can take a week off of work to give back to a charity or organization of your choosing. This volunteer opportunity is part of the Promega in Action initiative.
There is only one kick to this incredible opportunity. You have to document your experience. You can choose to write about it, take photos or capture it through video. Not so bad, right? Then when you get back to work, you're encouraged to share your volunteer experience with coworkers. In addition to your week of volunteering a year, Promega also pays its full-time employees 4 hours each month for volunteering.
"During my time at Promega I have had countless opportunities to witness the sincere dedication to supporting employees, customers and members of the community. The sense is that we are all in this together, working towards a better future for ourselves and our communities," said Becca McKnight, Integrative Employee Development Partner.
Weekly Farmers' Markets
Not Your Grandma's Benefits
Promega has already proven to be a pretty incredible place to work, and we haven't even gotten to the benefits. While the company does offer standard benefits, such as PTO and insurance options, Promega also offers some unusual perks that you won't see anywhere else.
Everything the company does is done with you in mind. So it makes sense that Promega is interested in keeping its employees healthy. That's why each week employees enjoy fresh produce from an onsite garden during the weekly farmers' markets.
Promega even offers health care, physical therapy, nutrition and mental health counseling all on campus. The campus also features workout facilities complete with fitness classes along with outdoor walking and skiing trails.
With those benefits and the culture Promega fosters, it's easy to see why employees are so happy working there.
