About You

As a Property Adjuster, you have a high level of engagement in providing claims services to our members. You will be responsible for investigating coverage and losses, evaluate damages, set and maintain reserves, settle and reconcile complex commercial property physical damage claims involving TASB Risk Management Fund members.

A Typical Day

· Investigate coverage and losses, evaluate damages, set reserves and issue claim settlement payments on commercial property losses of moderate to high complexity.

· Explain coverages and assist Fund members with itemization of damages, damage mitigation and emergency repairs.

· Review facts of an incident, create or review damage estimates, photos, videos and other evaluation documents to assess scope of loss and covered amounts.

Job Requirements

We are currently seeking dedicated professionals to work in our Chesapeake, VA office for future claims customer service opportunities in 2023. Work schedule times will vary and may include some weekends. We have new training classes starting every month. Military veterans and spouses/domestic partners are highly encouraged to apply.

As a Claims Adjuster in Property , you’ll work under supervision to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and adjust low to moderately complex claims presented by or against our insureds to confirm coverage, resolve legal liability and equitably settle/defend in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. In this role, you will make a difference to our members as you recognize life events, understand needs, and provide advice to deliver appropriate solutions to the member.

Primary Responsibilities:
Acquires and applies basic knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages and the USAA claim handling process and procedures. Provides claims service via internal channels (phone/fax/email/mail) to members and third-party customers. Adjusts low to moderately intricate Auto claims. Seeks mentorship from team members to resolve issues and identify appropriate issues for additional review. Partners with/ advises vendors and business partners to facilitate claims resolution. Contributes to business goals, performance measurements, and efficiently uses tools & technology. Supports workload surges and catastrophe operations during designated catastrophic events.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with members by phone, fax and email to process information for claims Successfully acquire an insurance adjuster license and applicable state registrations within 90 days of hire (USAA provides study materials and the training environment to assist you with the licensing exam)
Preferred Qualifications:
US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner Bachelor’s degree

Compensation : USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The hiring range for this position is: $47,840 - $49,840.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium: Addressed on an individual basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.

Essential Functions:
Performs field inspections on large and moderately complex to complex commercial property claims as applicable Promptly investigates and evaluates large and moderately complex to complex commercial property claims Reviews and evaluates the claim notice, lawsuits, contracts, and policies to verify coverage, deductibles, claim payee/mortgagees and determines compensability Initiates timely contact with insureds and claimants to explain the claims process Coordinates with appropriate experts to ensure urgent matters are addressed, such as initial remediation, temporary restoration, business continuation either at the damaged location or at a new temporary business site, preserving evidence, securing origin and cause experts, various engineers, general and subcontractors etc., and multi-party reinspection Analyzes business records, such as profit and loss statements, tax forms, financial forecasts, and payroll records to estimate the loss of business income Secures all necessary official reports, claim forms, pertinent documents, reviews bills, invoices, and receipts, including legal and litigation related expenses, for accuracy and appropriateness Notifies all parties involved that legally require appropriate notice Evaluates cause of loss and writes detailed estimates for cost of repairs and value of damaged property, including reviewing discrepancies identified between research and software estimates Sets timely, adequate reserves in compliance with the company reserving philosophy and methodology

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience Five years of property claims adjusting experience Relevant insurance designations preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent knowledge of the theory and practice of the claim function Strong knowledge of insurance contracts, and substantive and procedural laws Strong experience with writing estimates and building valuations Strong knowledge of computers and claims systems Ability to obtain all applicable state licenses Excellent organizational and empathetic interpersonal skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent customer service skills Excellent investigative and problem-solving abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality Occasional travel required; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving
