Company History: In 1953 William B. Campbell Sr. established Campbell Property Management after retiring from the New York Police Department and relocating to South Florida.
PAA was organized in 1961 with John (Jack) Erwin Griffiths serving as the association’s first president.
A second chapter was established in Long Island in 1962.
One of the important milestones of PAA was reached in 1963 when the concept of an annual meeting was initiated.
The National Property Management Association was formed as the result of a merger between the Property Administration Association (PAA) and the National Industrial Property Management Association (NIPMA) in Dallas, Texas on March 13, 1970.
In the 1970’s, the conversion and development of condominiums began to take off and Campbell recognized the importance of professional management for the property and facilities.
NPMA was incorporated in the state of New Jersey on May 26, 1971.
The agreement of the merger between PAA and NIPMA was signed on January 1, 1972.
Microsoft launched Excel in 1985 and spreadsheet accounting became an option over standard paper and ink ledgers.
When the Tax Reform Act of 1986 passed, real estate investors were no longer able to deduct their losses from their income.
With Ralph Tutor’s help, in 1987, an organizational meeting was held for single-family managers in Dallas, Texas.
A newsletter was created in 1988 and was published three times per year.
The first national convention was held in November 1989.
The New Jersey Corporation was dissolved and NPMA was incorporated in the state of Florida in 1990.
The National Board enacted a new set of bylaws and a constitution, and adopted Articles of Incorporation at the annual meeting in Reno, June 1991.
Qualified was founded in 1991 to handle the complex range of services required by the growing number of homeowner, condominium, luxury high rise, co-operative, property owner, time share resort condominiums and master planned community associations in West Central Florida.
Enhancing the ethical behavior of the membership has always been a basic principle for NARPM®. The Code of Ethics and Standards of Professionalism were formalized and adopted In 1994 at the New Orleans Convention, and have been amended several times since.
By January 1997, membership had grown to almost 1,300 members with 34 chapters in place.
In February 2003, a group of property managers and local vendors strove to bring the local apartment industry to a new level.
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median income for property managers was $39,980 in 2004.
In 2005, NARPM® breached the 2,000 member mark with 68 chapters.
Job openings for property, real estate, and community association managers are expected to increase as fast as the average through the year 2014.
The association was originally named the Emerald Coast Apartment Association, but in January of 2022 ECAA merged with the Bay County Multi Housing Association and become the Northwest Florida Apartment Association.
