SUMMARY: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success while at the same time helping the athlete to achieve an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. * Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of their program, including the junior varsity and freshman teams. * Is in charge of assignments and duties of assistant coaches working in their sport. * Is responsible for the general upkeep, protection, and inventory of the equipment and uniforms used in their sport including the junior varsity and freshman teams. * Is responsible for assuring that assistant coaches and themselves know the existing state and league regulations and abide by them at all times. * Assist the athletic coordinator in providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events. * Attend all league meetings regarding scheduling and rule updates specific to their sport. * Responsible for developing their schedules for all levels of play. * Communicates all schedule changes to the Director of Athletics or athletic coordinator. * Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment storage areas. * Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices, and adheres to scheduled facility times. * Makes recommendations for awards and is responsible for clarification of the award policy to athletes. * and additional NOTE: Coaches must meet certification requirements set by the State of Connecticut.
