Lucid Motors is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Prototype Machinist, Vehicle Integration with an understanding of fundamental shop knowledge who can be mentored. This position will report to the Machine Shop Supervisor. The ideal candidate is extremely hands-on with solid experience in CNC and manual machining.

The Role:Work from solid models, technical drawings, engineering sketches, and other such documentation to produce a variety of prototype and production parts Analyze written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to determine operation sequences Work with tolerances of +/- .10 mm in most cases with less frequent requirements of +/-.01 mm Set up and operate manual mills and lathes with proficiency Finish, deburr and clean parts as required Verify part conformance using machinist's measuring instruments Maintain a tidy and safe work environment Develop and maintain supportive, professional relationships with technicians, designers and engineers
Qualifications:5+ years experience as a MachinistSome degree of proficiency with MasterCam, Fusion 360 or other CAM software, along with parametric programming-macros using G/M code Machine setup and operation including tool setup Ability to machine parts to specification working from CAD files, mechanical drawings and sketches Ability to read, understand, and create technical mechanical drawings, including orthographic projections, sectional views, part notes and dimensions and tolerances Skills in workpiece fixturing Understanding of milling, turning, single-point threading, knurling, broaching, grinding, cutting, etc. and detailed functional knowledge of most common machine shop tools and machines Familiarity with the setup of manual milling machines and lathes, including squaring vises, tramming heads, use of dividing head, rotary table Understanding of metrology, GD&T and the ability to use conventional machinist's measuring instruments Ability to perform calculations using geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and basic mathematics Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines

The Role

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Prototype Machinist. This role will require the individual to work closely with teams within manufacturing to support tooling and production needs throughout all of Tesla's Body-in-White production lines. We are looking for candidates who are shift flexible and available to work overtime, based on business needs.

Responsibilities

+ Ability to machine tight tolerance components and assemblies using manual and/or CNC machine tools to make or modify parts, weldments, and assemblies. Applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, layout, and good machining procedures

+ Operate typical machine shop equipment's including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, sanders, and saws

+ Ability to use 3D and 2D CAD/CAM software such as CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, MASTERCAM and AUTOCAD to view and/or extract components from solid model assemblies to generate toolpaths and detailed drawings

+ Work with minimal supervision and limited detailed drawings or blueprints

+ Must be able to interpret verbal or written instructions and work independently to complete jobs from set up to final inspection

+ Work closely with managers, engineers, and technicians to produce a wide variety of components, weldments, and assemblies

+ General shop responsibilities (i.e. help ensure a safe working environment, equipment maintenance and repair, housekeeping duties, organization of shop materials and supplies)

Requirements

+ 12 years minimum experience as a Tool & Die Maker or Prototype Machinist

+ 5 years minimum experience as a Manual Machinist or 5 years minimum experience as a CNC Machinist/Programmer

+ Experienced and highly skilled in tool and die making with the ability to design and build custom fixtures and jigs

+ Experience working with a wide range of materials from hardened tool steels to plastics (i.e., tool steels, pre-hardened steels, stainless steels, low carbon steels, aluminum, plastics, copper, and brass)

+ Welding/Fabrication & sheet metal knowledge and experience is a plus

+ Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines

+ Work efficiently and productively in independent and team settings

+ Communicate clearly using excellent written and verbal skills

+ Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail

+ Flexible to work first, second, or third shift as well as weekends

Main Objective:

Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. This position produces prototype parts and components by programming, setting up, and operating manual and CNC mills, lathes, and other equipment. Completes training to produce 3D printed parts, operates 3D printers, and communicates customer order requests and deliveries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Ensures that prototypes are made to achieve objectives, to specifications, and to high standards.
* Ensures that all applicable operating policies and procedures are followed and adhered to.
* Consults with Manufacturing and Design Engineers and other personnel regarding product information, product design and function, and material requirements for manufacture of the prototype.
* Reviews drawings, written specifications, rough sketches and oral instructions to plan how to manufacture the prototype and determines sequence of operations. Plans machining and subsequent operations by studying previous or similar products produced, studying drawings, materials, specifications, reference planes, location of surfaces, and machining parameters; interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.
* Provides feedback and input on changes or ideas for improvement of tolerances, fits, and function.
* Determines materials required and enters purchase requisitions in the SAP systems for procurement.
* Selects tooling, work holding, resources required; produces CNC programs to machine the prototype.
* Creates purchase requisitions in SAP for tooling, fixtures, work holding as required.
* Operates Prototype Dept standard and specialized equipment and measuring tools to produce prototypes.
* Completes dimensional and visual inspections as necessary to ensure that the prototypes were made to the drawing dimensions and the prototype is visually aesthetic and suitable for use.
* Completes the prototype(s) to the customer's requirements and to the agreed delivery date.
* Maintains a high level of teamwork with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, and Prototype Dept. personnel to complete projects in a timely manner.
* Maintains quality and safety standards and maintains supplies and equipment.

Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma or equivalent required
* 10 years directly related training and/or experience of machine operating

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Full working knowledge of machining properties of medical device materials including stainless steel, titanium, cobalt chrome and PEEK. Good mechanical aptitude. Full working knowledge of SolidWorks CAD modeling skills. Intermediate CNC programming skills. Good blue print reading skills.

Proficient with measuring equipment and instruments. General knowledge of tool life.

High sense of urgency to complete projects in a timely manner with tight deadlines.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Programming skills, setup and operation of CNC and manual machines.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
