Schedule
Monday through Thursday (specific days/hours determined by the Building Principal based on student need and program scheduling).
Weekly hours not to exceed four (4) per assigned tutor position.
Position Goals
To provide targeted academic support and enrichment that improves student achievement and engagement beyond the regular school day.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide tutoring to students participating in the After School Tutoring Program.
Collaborate with colleagues regarding student assignments.
Maintain accurate records, including student attendance logs.
Perform other duties and assignments as directed by the Building Principal.
Work Environment & Expectations
Work is performed in a typical school classroom or designated tutoring space. Tutors are expected to maintain a professional, student-focused atmosphere and adhere to all District policies regarding confidentiality, conduct, and instructional integrity.
Physical and Mental Demands
Must be able to move between classrooms or tutoring locations. Requires the ability to engage in prolonged periods of concentration, interact effectively with students and staff, and manage multiple tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with applicable laws.
This hourly position is a non-tenure, extra-duty assignment contingent upon sufficient student enrollment, program approval, and available funding. It is not subject to continued renewal and
may be discontinued at the district's discretion. This position is exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Stipends are not calculated based on hours worked and are considered payment for duties performed outside the regular instructional day. Subject to satisfactory criminal background clearance and drug screening as required by Illinois School Code and District policy. This is an at-will, extra-duty appointment and may be discontinued at the District's discretion.

The overarching goal of this program is to provide disadvantaged and low-income youth with the opportunity to obtain a high school diploma and construction certifications online, develop employment hard and soft skills, and secure local in-demand jobs, thus achieving economic self-sufficiency. PURPOSE
To teach basic skills (reading, writing, math) and GED preparation, modify the curriculum and materials to meet individual and program needs.
Coordinate, develop, or adapt a vocational-oriented curriculum in cooperation with the site team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide quality instruction to youth participants in all areas of the GED preparation curriculum. This includes basic reading, writing, math and algebra, science, and social studies.
Provide remediation skills training to youth who need upgrading literacy and numeracy skills through tutoring.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the GED certification exam requirements, processes, procedures, and study materials.
Administer and score all required pre and post-assessments using prescribed testing materials.
Ensure that participants who are basic skills deficient (BSD) increase a minimum of one educational functional level (EFL) in math, reading, or both.
Maintain up-to-date testing and outcome reports for both CASAS Goals and GED testing.
Develop and regularly update individualized learning plans for each youth participant in accordance with individual learning styles and skill levels.

The center supports English as a Second Language (ESL) students by tutoring students in all skill areas (reading, writing, listening, speaking, etc.) and levels (from beginning reading/writing to college prep/essay writing) within the ESL program. Tutors assist tutees in developing and improving their competency in course work. This position helps students integrate and apply effective study skills, note-taking, test-taking strategies, time management, and organizational skills to their specific courses. Tutors work with students in various programs across the colleges, providing individual and small group tutoring. Tutors also work inside the classroom as embedded tutors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides academic assistance and tutoring to students on an individual or group basis.
* Tutors students to help them gain a deeper comprehension of course materials and a better understanding of work assignments to improve their academic success.
* Crafts effective tutoring plans to address tutee's weaknesses and strengths.
* Motivates students and provides them with confidence to feel successful.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in higher in a field of study and subject area related to the subject(s) being tutored, OR similar technical certifications and training. Specific additional requirements or certifications may be required depending on the assignment area.
* Completion of tutoring certification preferred.
* Experience in teaching, tutoring, or delivering academic support to students at the postsecondary instructional level is strongly preferred.
* Experience working in a large, urban community college environment with a diverse cultural and ethnic student body is highly desirable.
* Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $17.48- $24.59 per hour

Responsibilities Job Start Date: Approximate start date September 1st, 2022. Official start date is contingent on school schedule and training time. The Illinois Tutoring Initiative is a 2-year grant-funded project that will end after funding ceases. Tutors will be matched on a semester basis. Tutors will also be paid for required training and planning time and receive a travel stipend for any face-to-face tutoring sessions. General: Tutors from across the state will tutor 3rd-8th grade students in groups of 1-3 in Illinois. Tutors will be matched with students by proximity, content area, and age-level. Tutoring will primarily occur face-to-face at district sites with specific remote options. ITI Tutors will work consistently on either Reading or Math with the same student(s) for the period of one semester for 3 hour-long sessions per week. If availability allows, ITI tutors can accept up to 4 tutoring matches. The commitment for each tutoring assignment is 4.5hrs per week. Tutoring Planning and Session Delivery (90%) Review student information and data from previous sessions in order to plan for tutoring sessions. Conduct in-person or online tutoring sessions, 3 times per week for the duration of the semester session. Utilize materials and or planning materials available to tutors or from recommended sources. Assesses student skills for area of need or recommended content area Records Management (10%) Submits session forms after each session that includes notes on performance/assessment information and planning notes for the next session.
