Provo City School District company history timeline

1898

Officially organized in 1898, Provo City School District is one of 41 public school districts in Utah.

1912

Provo High School was founded in 1912.

1920

The students originally met at Provo Center School before a specific high school building was built in 1920.

1921

It did not graduate its first students until 1921.

1944

Schools were renamed: * John Clifton Moffitt, A Century of Public Education in Provo, Utah (Provo, Utah: [s.n.], 1944) 52.

1950

The history dates back to at least 1950 at Camp Sowiette, located “deep in Rock Canyon.” Students in 5th grade, 6th grade, and Junior High would attend camp in week long sessions during the summer.

1969

The current program located at Camp Big Springs began in 1969.

1973

Around 1973, due to financial constraints, the program was cut to one week in the valley with fewer field trips and one week at Camp Big Springs.

1976

In 1976, school budgets were cut by the State Legislature and the 5th grade Outdoor Education Program was cut completely.

2018

The current Provo High School was built in 2018.
