Responsibilities

Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests, administer local anesthesia, and manage oral health emergencies as needed
Adhere to infection control policies, OSHA standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations
Support and mentor dental residents or team members as assigned

The PsychiatricNursePractitioner performs psychiatric assessments as needed and participates in the ongoing treatment of clients. The Psychiatric NP will start on a part-time productivity arrangement and may develop into a full-time position upon successful performance and business needs. The Psychiatric NP may offer services to both Adult and Children/Adolescent population.
DUTIES
Conducts psychiatric assessments as needed and makes treatment recommendations.
Initiates, renews or modifies the psychotropic medications of clients.
Identifies possible medical problems and arranges referral to PCP or other medical facility.
Consults psychiatrist for complicated psychiatric problems, which are minimally familiar to NP.
Provides consultation and education to clients and staff about psychotropic medications as clinical load allows and as requested by supervisor.
Maintains client charts and records according to established guidelines and procedures.
Attends and participates in staff and team meetings as requested by medical director.
May supervise the clinical work of nursing staff at the discretion of medical director.
May provide medical orientation and training to other staff members including in service training sessions as requested by medical director.
May participate in the planning, development, and implementation of new services as part of the medical staff.
May provide initial assessment and care in psychiatric emergencies in consultation with
Coordinate all care and services required to enhance and facilitate the optimal physical and behavioral health wellness of persons served within a trauma-informed care framework. This includes: 1) facilitating communication between medical and behavioral health practitioners/systems; 2) assisting with scheduling of and compliance with preventative and specialty physical health interventions; 3) integrating treatment interventions to address both the physical and behavioral health needs of the person/family concurrently; 4) assist persons/families served with education and resources outlining the interplay of physical and behavioral health issues on overall wellness and quality of life.

REQUIREMENTS
Requires possession of a certificate as a PsychiatricNursePractitioner from the State of Arizona.
Candidates with 3 years post-graduation clinical experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Ability to perform a complete psychiatric evaluation, including medical symptoms, history and treatment that may be related to psychiatric symptomatology.
Demonstrable knowledge of all psychotropic medications that currently have general acceptance for use in psychiatry.
Working knowledge of the major risks and benefits of the medications, both as single agents and in combinations with other psychotropics.
Must show ability to find needed information about psychiatric illnesses and medications in a timely fashion.
Must be able to initiate and maintain medication plans that are likely to be followed and tolerated by the client.
Must be familiar with interpretation of laboratory tests that are frequently ordered in the clinical care of psychiatric clients.
Must be able to work with psychiatrists and to ask for consultation when it is appropriate to do so.
Must be able to integrate available data on clients in a sophisticated way, taking into account the source and reliability of the information.
Ability to interact with clients, their families, La Frontera employees, and community professionals and agencies in an appropriate manner.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary team.
Knowledge of the cultural characteristics of various minority groups or a willingness to become familiar with these characteristics and to use the knowledge in the care of La Frontera clients.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The PMHNP serves as an active member of the site clinical team working collaboratively on the delivery of clinical care. Additional duties include:

* Develops differential diagnostic assessments, assessments of capacity for consent to treatment, risk assessments, patient education, and progress towards treatment goals including medical, psychological, social, behavioral and developmental aspects of the member's situation.
* Documents patient's progress with delivery service expectation of 6 hours face-to-face time per 8-hour work day, or 8 hours face-to-face time per 10-hour work day.
* Orders follow-up blood levels and other lab tests according to standard medical practice, obtains a past and current medical history
* Initiates contact with PCP, ED clinicians, and therapists according to established guidelines, to provide whole health integrated care
* Provides psychopharmacological treatment in alignment with patient's treatment plan; appropriate follow-up of patient's symptoms and response to medications, including side effects. Utilizes appropriate medication based on best practices, in addition to appropriately completing required documentation for preauthorization of pharmacy services. Completes medication education and informed consent.
* Routinely assesses patient's need for ACT services, using explicit criteria to determine need to transfer to less intensive services. Conducts home and community visits as required by ACT fidelity measures.
* Assesses patient's needs and guides the clinical team while managing crisis and treatment plan updates. Collaborates with nurses and medical assistants.
* Educates non-medical staff on psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications, their side effects, and health-related conditions.
* Provides psychiatric back-up to the program after-hours and weekends on a rotating basis with other psychiatric care providers who share on-call; will have access to consumers' current status and medical records/current medications.
