Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in our Duke GI Clinics located in Cary and Raleigh, NC to provide medical care to adult patients with both general gastrointestinal conditions and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Record the history of present illness, past medical, family, and social history
Perform physical examinations
Establish and follow plan of care in conjunction with MD
Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork; order refills as needed
Patient and family teaching
Order appropriate labs, tests, and procedures and follow up with patient as needed
Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed
Document clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic system
Review lab results in Epic, communicate and interpret results
Collaborate with IBD Resource Nurse regarding IBD patient triage and return patient calls within 24-48 hours; provide feedback regarding scheduling of urgent patient appointments
Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, outside radiographs, lab, and other test results
Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications
Attendance at GI Grand Rounds, IBD meetings, and IBD conferences is expected.Participation in other divisional educational events is also encouraged.

Education
NursePractitioners:Work requires completion of an accredited NursePractitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
Physician Assistants:Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
BLS required.
License
NursePractitioners:Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Psychiatric Care and Rounding: Conduct patient rounds and manage psychiatric care within SNF, LTC, AL, and IL settings.
* Collaborative Care Coordination: Partner with attending physicians, consulting specialists, referral sources, and facility staff to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.
* Patient Evaluation and Management: Assess and manage the mental health needs of residents, perform physical exams, and gather complete medical histories.
* Diagnostics and Therapeutics: Order and interpret lab and diagnostic tests, make preliminary diagnoses, and develop effective therapeutic care plans for mental and physical health.
* Medication and Treatment Management: Prescribe and administer medications and treatments; provide injections as necessary.
* Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on medications, care plans, and preventive mental health practices.

Qualifications
* Graduation from an accredited NursePractitioner program and ANCC certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health NursePractitioner (PMHNP).
* Active DEA license.
* BLS and ACLS certification.
* Current NursePractitioner license in the state of practice.

Your Qualifications:
Board Certified by the ANCC as a PMHNP

Ability to obtain and maintain active and unrestricted license and DEA number. We can assist in obtaining licensure as needed.
