Department Overview
The Division of Hematology Oncology is one of 14 divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine, in the School of Medicine, at UC Davis Health. Hematology Oncology includes approximately 35 faculty (physician and research), seven MSP physicians, 13 advanced practice providers and other clinical staff, 25 research staff and nine administrative/ financial staff. Division ambulatory clinical services are located in the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center in Sacramento, C Street Clinic in Sacramento, the Placer Health Center in Rocklin and the new Cancer Clinic in Folsom.
Department Specific Job Scope
During the day, the physician will see patients in the clinic and evaluate and initiate therapy for those patients. The physician will be scheduled in person for six half-days/week outpatient clinic and one half-day/week (based on patient demand) virtual visits at Folsom Center for Health (or hybrid if there isn?t sufficient patient demand for a full half-day of video visits). Additionally, the physician will be scheduled one half-day/week at UCDCCC. On average, the physician may see four to eight patients per four-hour clinic session (expectation is one new patient and six follow up patients per half-day, which may start as four new patients per half-day and could be eight follow up patients per half-day as the practice is established).
The Folsom Center for Health and UCDCCC are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, during which time, the physician is expected to be on-site and available for patients during his/her scheduled clinic activities. The physician's time will be allocated as 100% clinical effort (this includes time needed for completion of medical records, timely follow-up messages, and care coordination) The physician will have two half-days/week of administrative/non-patient facing time.
Additionally, the physician will see patients at Folsom Center for Health 10 to 12 full-day Saturdays/year, with two consecutive four-hour sessions on the same Saturday.

Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance and other relevant patient education.
Based upon Specific Specialty, additional duties may include the following:
Facilitate admissions, transfers, discharges
First assist in surgeries or perform procedures as applicable
Round on inpatients
Performs admission evaluation on patients to include: obtaining basic medical information and history, reviewing patients medical record, performing physical exam, documenting findings into patient medical record, and reporting deviations from normal findings to attending physician.
Provides patient and family with pre-operative/pre-procedure and other pertinent education.
Answers questions regarding surgery or procedures, recovery and risk factor modification; provides blood transfusion information as applicable; performs peri-operative procedures; locates and utilizes diagnostic images, instruments and pertinent patient information.
Reviews patient chart noting allergies, pertinent medical history, and abnormal physical findings.
Assists in performing surgical procedures and other procedures consistent with the standards of care and practice guidelines.
Depending on the specialty, may work as the First Assist during surgical procedures, start IVs, and/or perform suturing.
Performs post-operative procedures to include entering standard post-operative orders into patient medical records; assists physicians with evaluation and management of patients status during recovery; reviews vital signs, laboratory and diagnostic studies; assists with management of patients.
Facilitates patient discharge; dictates discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner.
The Senior Physician Assistant provides a high level of clinical and operational expertise and may function as a mentor to less experienced Physician Assistants.
May collaborate with the supervising physician, manager and other department members on performance improvement activities.

The PA will perform physical exams, diagnose skin conditions and will develop treatment plans, provide health counseling, prescribe medication, and may perform minor surgery, including, but not limited to, removal of skin tags, cysts, benign tumors, actinic keratosis, malignant skin tumors, laser surgery, laser treatment procedures (for example, excimer laser for psoriasis). The PA will perform biopsies and simple to complex excisions, and may assist in major medical procedures such a Mohs, laser or cosmetic procedures. The PA will see both new and follow-up patients as assigned by the Clinic Medical Director and Physician Assistant Trainer and Supervisor.
Other duties include ordering medications, lab work, imaging, and other requirements of appropriate dermatologic care, reviewing progress of patients, attending and participating in staff conferences to discuss the surgical and medical conditions of patients. He/she may also be asked to draft referral letters to outside physicians and request for insurance companies for pre-authorization for certain medications and prior to surgery. The PA will also return patient phone calls and MyChart messages as needed or as assigned by the Clinic Medical Director and Physician Assistant Trainer and Supervisor. He/she may triage patient phone calls and electronic messages in the EHR, renew or fill prescriptions as needed for both his/her own patients as well as for other PAs and physicians in the practice. May also perform cosmetic procedures (such as, but not limited to, laser hair reduction and Fraxel laser, fillers, chemical peels, etc.) as well as phototherapy treatment, if the need arises. Duties are to be performed in consultation with the Physician Assistant Trainer and Supervisor.

Schedule: 24-hour in-house on-call shifts, 5 to 7 shifts per month, 6-month initial duration
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care as an OB/GYN Hospitalist
Manage labor and delivery cases, including high-risk pregnancies
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including board-certified neonatologists in the level III NICU
Respond to obstetric and gynecologic emergencies
Participate in hospital-based rounds and consultations
Ensure adherence to Baby-Friendly hospital protocols and standards
Additional Information
Board Certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology required
Must possess a current California medical license
Current AHA certification in CPR required
