Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.
The hospital's enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.
Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for wards of the state, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County
Job Description
Pediatric advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is to provide acute care services. A collaborative agreement is developed and updated through the credential process and as needed, with the current Physicians who cover walk in clinic.
Provides advanced pediatric care, including acute and primary care, health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management. Performs medical functions according to approved protocols and/or collaborative agreements.
Assesses patient and family needs using medical screening exams, history and physicals, and other appropriate evaluations. Develops and documents individualized plans of care.
Uses advanced clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. Monitors outcomes and adjusts treatment plans as needed.
Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop coordinated treatment plans. Communicates care plans with patients, families, and other providers to ensure continuity of care.
Provides patient and family education, identifies learning needs, and evaluates understanding. Assists staff in delivering education.
Supports professional development of nursing staff, provides education in areas of expertise, and mentors new practitioners and graduate students. Shares clinical knowledge through formal and informal teaching.
Serves as a clinical resource on pediatric practice and disease management within the organization and the community.
Participates in relevant professional organizations to maintain current practice and contribute to the field.
Qualifications
Education: M.S Degree; training as a Family NursePractitioner or Pediatric NursePractitioner License: Current Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), PALS certified
Experience: 3 years or more experience
Language: Bi-lingual Spanish Preferred
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge and expertise in pediatrics .Active membership in appropriate professional organizations; Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
PALS and CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.

Essential Functions:
Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
