Job Summary: The hospitalist DVM is responsible for diagnosing and treating urgent and emergency medical cases by providing critical, life-saving care. As a hospitalist, you also would work closely with our criticalist to provide continued critical care for inpatients. There would be some outpatient/triage responsibilities depending on the shift. You will collaborate with Specialty DVMs to provide well rounded treatment plans that are unique to each patient's need. They will utilize their knowledge to educate not only our team on the medicine they are providing but also relaying this information to our clients in a manner that is easy to understand. As an ER/ICU DVM you are responsible for communicating different options for medical treatment plans as well as the financial responsibilities that go along with these. You will collaborate closely with our medical team, client service representatives, and administrative staff to strengthen teamwork, communication, and overall hospital culture. Your leadership will help elevate patient care, streamline operations, and create a more supportive and unified environment within EVS. Evolution Veterinary Specialists has an excellent team of full-time, 24/7 Emergency doctors as well as Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Oncology, and Critical Care. EVS is located in Lakewood, Colorado less than 10 min. outside of Denver with quick access to the foothills and mountains. Required Licenses, Registrations, & Insurance by Colorado Law: · Colorado Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) License. · Registration with DORA. · AVMA PLIT Insurance. · DEA License. Required & Preferred Experience: · Required: 5+ year experience in veterinary emergency care. · Preferred: Internship trained or 3+ years' experience in veterinary emergency care. · Experience with inpatients is required. · Preferred: RECOVER certification. · Preferred: Experience in surgery and endoscopy a plus but not required. DVM Duties & Responsibilities: · Provide expert care to patients in emergency cases, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex medical conditions. · Collaborate with other specialists and emergency doctors to deliver comprehensive care to patients. · Utilize or willing to learn advanced diagnostic and treatment options, including CT Scanner (Toshiba Aquilion 64-slice), C arm with fluoroscopy capability, GE Logiq E, Vivid IQ, and Phillips ultrasound units. Willingness to learn and use any additional diagnostic and treatment options that we bring on in the future. · Working knowledge and/or experience with various types of scopes including rigid rhinoscopy, laparoscopy, interventional fluoroscopy, and bronchoscopy. · Participate in a collaborative team approach to provide the AAHA standard of veterinary care. · Ability to manage the flow of ER caseload appropriately. Utilizing time when the ER caseload is slower to teach the medical team different techniques and working through areas to improve workflow efficiency. · Keep careful medical records for all patients, treatments administered, exams, and procedures. · Ensure treatment records are completed daily for all patients seen that day. · Completing and maintaining all medical records within 24hrs. · Regularly attend and participate in hospital rounds. · Attend mandatory meetings that include, but are not limited to: - All Staff Meetings - ER DVM Meetings - Other Department Meetings · Consistency in leading, managing, and coaching department technicians and technician assistants. · Participate in department Team Building activities when available. · Working knowledge of the following platforms: EzyVet, Instinct, IDEXX, Cubex. · Attend and teach hospital CE opportunities for community and staff. · Create and provide accurate treatment plans (estimates) to clients and adjust as needed for current patient needs maintaining within the client's financial limitations. · Ensure all patient invoices are accurate for all treatments performed before approving. · Work with GP clinic doctors and other referring DVMs to collaborate on care plans and follow-up with them regarding treatments administered. · Promptly answer and return calls from GP doctors, referring clinics, and clients. · Help lead, manage, and coach department technicians and technician assistants in correlation with department supervisors and Technician Manager. * Other duties as assigned; this list is not exhaustive, & employer reserves the right to assign additional tasks & responsibilities as needed.
