This position will report directly to the Chief of Psychiatry and work very closely with Autism Leadership Team to treat patients in Autism programs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The position of Staff Psychiatrist requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, observing and listening to patients and staff, with periods of walking and standing. It is occasionally required to be able to lift and/or push/pull up to 20 pounds. Gross grasp is necessary in both hands and fine manipulation is required in the dominant hand. This position also may require the ability to drive to other treatment locations or external events on a regular basis. COGNITIVE DEMANDS This position requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning and adaptability to foreign environments and information and quick decision making. A high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception and/or concentration are also necessary. High degree of writing proficiency including attention to detail, adherence to all elements of style, and ability to postulate. High level of communication skills including expression of abstract/complex ideas, use of negotiation and active listening, and an ability to dialogue with multiple parties. Requires and ability to comprehend abstractions and to make inferences. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional (e.g. medical/psychological) terms and definitions is required. WORK DEMANDS This position requires working in the hospital, particularly on the patient units the majority of the time. This means occasional exposure to wet, humid, or dry conditions, as well noise, odors, hazards, and blood borne pathogens. This position does have on-call requirement and will be part of the coverage schedules for patient care needs for at least one week per month for the whole department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides direct patient and/or family treatment as indicated. Participates in family conferences of referred patients as clinically indicated. Provides on call services in collaboration with department providers. Coordinates team meetings for care of patients in the program. Provides clinically pertinent education to appropriate staff, graduate students, residents and/or fellows. Continually identifies and pursues opportunities for process improvement in patient care that supports HFSC's culture of high reliability in conjunction with Chief of Psychiatry. There is support and opportunity for research. Interacts with medical staff physicians both informally and as a member of the Medical Staff Committee, attending 75% of the meetings annually. Promotes and advocates effectively for autism services in the community. Provides community and stakeholder education as necessary. Continues education in areas pertinent to hospital mission, as documented in credentials file. Remains in good standing with charting, billing and mandatory training (i.e. Fire Safety, etc..)
