Treats medical, surgical, psychiatric, and neurological problems of patients in the facility. 5. Consults with patients, their families, other medical professionals, attorneys, teachers, and other interested persons to interpret clinical findings. 6. Conducts group and family therapy sessions. 7. Prepares diagnostic reports for judges, administrative law examiners, federal government officials, school officials, physicians, and other interested parties. 8. Provides expert witness testimony in courts of law and administrative hearings regarding the status of patients or social security disability income claimants. 9. Directs and instructs nurses, other professional support staff, attendants, and residents in the care and treatment of patients. 10. Provides instruction and guidance to social security disability income examiners in the review of medical and psychological disability claims. 11. Prescribes medications for the treatment of physical and psychological disorders. 12. Attends and participates in general and teaching staff conferences. 13. Receives advanced training in the field of psychiatry or neurology. 14. Researches cognitive disorders to identify treatment methods. 15. Delivers speeches to lay and professional groups concerning mental hygiene, child guidance, and related topics. 16. Oversees the work of professional staff by making and reviewing work assignments, establishing priorities, coordinating activities, and resolving related work problems. 17. Performs related work as assigned. 18. Performs on a regular basis, professional psychiatric assignments that are identified by the agency as highly complex in nature. CLINIC WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Possession of a unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine in Michigan. Possession of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology “general requirements” for certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
