Collaboration and consultation with community agencies, other medical providers (especially the client's primary care physician) and schools is also expected. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide a full range of outpatient psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and families at FSGC. Psychiatric consultation. Prescribe and monitor medication for the treatment of mental disorders as indicated according to prevalent medical standards of practice and guidelines from The American Academy of Child & Adolescents Psychiatry. Psychotherapy (with pre-approval and within the limits established by the Medical Director). Consultation with other clinical staff of FSGC. Consultation with community agencies, other medical providers (especially the client's primary care physician) and schools. Supervision of other medical personnel or trainees, as requested by the Chief Medical Officer. Prompt completion of all clinical documentation of patient contacts in the agency's EHR system within the department's guidelines for timeliness. The Chief Medical Officer in collaboration with the Clinical Oversight Committee will establish documentation criteria. Attend staff or administrative meetings as required. Help develop protocols for delivery of psychiatric services. Provide community and interagency educational services as requested from time to time. Overview The Neonatology Division at Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City is seeking board certified/eligible pediatricians to provide clinical care in our regional referral Level IV NICU. In addition to clinical excellence, preferred candidates should have an interest in and evidence of scholarly pursuits, including education and quality improvement initiatives. The Neonatology Division consists of 36 neonatologists with a wide spectrum of interests, providing opportunity for candidates to find collaboration and support for an individualized professional career pathway. Position Clinical Duties: Collaborate with a neonatologist to treat complex patients, in a procedural oriented specialty. The position would begin as a full-time, front-line neonatal provider in the Children's Mercy Hospital NICU. Following an appropriate orientation to the NICU, to include proficiency in life-saving procedures (intubation, umbilical lines, etc), credentialing at other metropolitan hospital NICUs, which the Division of Neonatology serves, can be considered. Additional opportunities, such as the circumcision team or providing sole care to level 1-2 NICU patients, are possible. If desired, other clinical care models, in which the Division serves, can be considered, to include newborn nursery coverage and neonatal follow-up clinics. Longevity within the academic division is desired, with ample opportunities to pursue scholarly achievement and faculty development possibilities to qualify for academic promotion. Additional details of the position include: Develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes: Completes a comprehensive health history and performs a physical examination. Formulates and initiates a comprehensive plan of care, based on relevant therapeutic and diagnostic patient data. Consults with neonatologist as needed. Communicates plan of care to the family, nursing staff, and neonatologist and/or referring physician. Performs appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions/procedures as indicated by the patient's condition. Evaluates and documents diagnostic findings and the patient's responses to therapy. Modifies the management plan based on evaluation of patient data, in collaboration with the health care team. Attends deliveries and leads resuscitation efforts as necessary. Performs technical skills and management consultation as needed to assist nurses or resident physicians in the nursery and delivery room. Provides high-risk perinatal patients with appropriate information and counseling as requested. Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team: Participates in teaching rounds, serving as a clinical resource. Performs consultations for inpatients as requested by specialty, medical and surgical services in collaboration with neonatologist. Provides formal and informal educational opportunities for nurses, physicians and allied health professionals. Serves as a liaison between family and staff in communicating with neonatologists regarding the patient's condition and plan of care. Collaborates with Division of Neonatology in the development of protocols and standards of care pertinent to specialty area. Serves as a clinical expert to community physicians and nurses. Attends education programs, unit/department meetings and assigned committees: Completes mandatory education requirements (division, department and unit specific). Regular attendance and active participation at division and committee meetings. Participates in performance improvement activities: Collects and analyzes data for unit based, specialty service and/or hospital QI projects. Identifies ways to improve organizational performance/clinical practice. Participates in the development and/or revision of hospital/NICU standards. Ongoing review of revised or new standards of care/practice. Participates on a CQI project team; completes assignments on time.
