    As a board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist, you will practice medicine through the assessment and treatment of persons having or suspected of having psychiatric disorders and intellectual disabilities. This involves the diagnosis, treatment and disposition of assigned patients including such activities as psychiatric assessment, consultation with other medical and professional staff, prescribing medications and treatment along with documentation of treatment plans and progress achieved. This is distinguished from the work of other medical physicians in that it deals with the study, treatment, and prevention of mental illness. These clinical and consultative functions also include ordering/interpreting laboratory work, diagnostic tests, and nursing measures. Psychiatric consultation includes Integrated Biobehavioral Reviews on a quarterly basis on long-term care units and admission/discharge functions for individuals admitted to the Short Term Assessment Program. Salary Information The starting salary is up to $149.22 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus up to an additional $23.00 per hour add-on for a board certification in psychiatry. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 10/52. Job Details All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. In this role, the physician will serve as a team leader in our patient care model, which is based on a multi-faceted treatment team methodology. Physicians have the opportunity to work in one or more levels of care, in both a live and virtual environments, as well as support patient admissions, protocol development, quality assurance and peer review evaluations. Physicians will collaborate with nurse practitioners and physician assistants, as well as oversee residents and fellows during their educational rotations through our programs.
