Under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Optometry, the Optometrist provides comprehensive quality eye care to a broad range of patients. The Staff Optometrist also adheres to all clinical operations, including patient care, compliance with regulatory agencies/requirements (e.g. OSHA, DPH, JCAHO), infection control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, patient complaints, and incident reporting.
Representative Duties:
Provide comprehensive quality eyecare
Provide hands-on care while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness.
Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
Diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system.
Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment.
Prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions.
Maintain knowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides
Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. An interest in scleral lens is beneficial.
Qualifications
Current unrestricted license to practice optometry in the State of Massachusetts
Current controlled substance certificate
Training appropriate to practice
Excellent customer care skills
Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of quality eye care, evaluations, diagnosis and treatment
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
Knowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides
Ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
Residency training preferred.
