Assists the treatment team in the comprehensive assessment of:
Psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and response, and risk behaviors) Mental status, and diagnosis
Physical health and dental health
Use of drugs or alcohol
Education and employment
Social development and functioning
Activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and Family structure and relationships
Collaborates with registered nurses in assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educates consumers regarding psychotropic medications
Provides support, education, and counseling to family members of consumers to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness
Collaborates in the treatment process, and assists in their family member's progress
Provides on-site crisis assessment and management of consumers during regular work hours
Involved in consumer care including discharge planning of consumers as needed
Submits written reports and oral testimonies and presentations of opinion in commitment and/or other legal proceedings, which may include a wide range of treatment, rehabilitative and support services matters as required
Maintains core competencies in relation to working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and implementing skills into all aspects of treatment
Trains staff in the knowledge and skills basic to the treatment of persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses
Directs and collaborates with registered nurses to develop, revise, maintain and supervise team psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures
Attends staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to learn agency policy, rules, regulations, and procedures; participates in on-going in-service training as well as required external training
Assists in the development and implementation of programmatic goals and objectives
Provides consultative psychiatric services to Health Team staff committed to improving general health and well-being of members it serves with severe mental illness
Consults with Health Team staff to distribute evidence-based psychiatric education to the team
Supports and assists with the facilitation of Care Plans for consumers
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Board certified or Board eligible in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Oklahoma
One year relevant experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
General skill in exercising independent judgment, tact, patience, and understanding; maintaining effective working relationships with consumers, other staff, and the community
Must complete all in-service and external training requirements
Two years of relevant experience preferred
Clinical supervisory experience preferred
