Working Conditions
This position is physically located at the Allenby building in Sacramento County and is currently offered with the potential for a hybrid work environment. Consistent with Policy Directive 5338, Telework may be considered with prior approval from management. If approved, incumbent is expected to report to work at the Allenby building at least three times per week, as directed by their supervisor. Travel throughout California site visits, including overnight travel, to DSH partnered treatment facilities will be required with prior notice

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Medical Staff of Department of State Hospitals - Coalinga requires Staff Psychiatrist candidates meet the Medical Staff criteria for privileging set forth in the facility Bylaws.
This is a Tele-Medicine position. This Staff Psychiatrist will see patients of DSH-Coalinga via Telepresence from DSH Sacramento. You must write Tele-psychiatrist as the position you are applying for on your application. Position will be filled based upon budget approval.

Cut-off-dates are every other Tuesday beginning on Sptember 17, 2024.

Interview/Relocation Information

Vaccination Status Information
Effective October 1, 2021, in accordance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) State Public Health Order of August 5, 2021, all workforce members in DSH state hospitals are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination regimen. Prior to your first day, you will be required to fill out a COVID-19 Vaccination Consent Form.
Effective March 1, 2022, in accordance with CDPH State Public Health Order of December 22, 2021, hospital workforce members currently eligible for booster doses must have received their booster dose.
* If you are fully vaccinated, you must provide evidence of vaccination prior to your start date.
* If you are not fully vaccinated, you have the option to receive a vaccine from one of the State Hospitals prior to your start date.
* If you are not fully vaccinated and choose to complete a request for an exemption, you must submit this exemption and receive approval prior to your start date.
* If you are not yet eligible for a booster, you must be in compliance no later than 15 days after the recommended timeframe for receiving the booster dose.
Please note that start dates will be dependent upon if and when proof of vaccination or exemption requirements are submitted timely and approved.

Responsibilities include providing mental health clinical services to adults, children and their families with mental health issues, including psychiatric diagnosis, prescription writing, and psychotherapy as part of a full-service treatment team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Analyze and evaluate patient data and test or examination findings to diagnose the nature and extent of mental disorders.
Conduct psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management with general knowledge in the areas of Historical Trauma and Trauma-informed Care, domestic violence dynamics, pain management, addictive behavior, and developmental issues.
Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress; Review and evaluate treatment procedures and outcomes of other psychiatrists and medical professionals.
Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.
Counsel clients and their families during office visits; Advise and inform guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients conditions and treatment.
Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.

Cooperate and collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment approaches as appropriate.
Assist in the development and provision of outreach services to educate the Indian community regarding mental health and wellness. Outreach will include, but is not limited to, prevention education on reservation sites, in patients homes, work sites, schools, detention centers, inpatient units, jails and prisons.
Document succinct and comprehensive case records in a timely and consistent manner in accordance with agency policies, ethical guidelines and legal and regulatory requirements.
Adhere strictly to the laws and ethics related to privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Allow for, and encourage, traditional cultural practices that are consistent with spiritual beliefs and serve as protective factors.
Attend program, clinical, or administrative meetings and trainings as required.
Participate in activities and trainings which enhance professional development.
Participate, as needed, in review and analysis of data including, but not limited to, quality improvement, adverse clinical incidents, population demographics and morbiditys, clinical decision-making and consultation with clinicians to insure ongoing behavioral health integration into primary care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Education and Experience: Minimum of two years community-based practice and in health care delivery and clinical systems. MD or DO degree with a California license to practice .
Board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Must possess current CPR & ACLS and DEA registration.
Must be sensitive to Native American culture and values.
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modern medicine related to public health services; structure and functions of public health organizations.
General knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public health.
Understanding and functional knowledge of managed care systems.
Possession of a valid California license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position and qualify for the Tribes vehicle insurance, plus provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
