The newly hired full-time Pediatric Physiatrist we seek will join three other full-time Pediatric Physiatrists in the region and 7 Adult PM&R physicians at the Santa Clara facility. Regionally, there are about 100 PM&R physicians and dozens of pediatric subspecialists to collaborate with.
Active inpatient consultations are for the PICU, pediatric ward, and NICU. Opportunity for research can be pursued through the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research. Commonly treated conditions include cerebral palsy, TBI, SCI, stroke, developmental delay, gait impairment, limb deficiency and amputation, neuromuscular, spina bifida, neuro-oncology, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

Actively communicates with optical, ophthalmology, support staff and fellow OD teams to optimize quality and clinical care and service to patients. Under the general supervision of the Director of Specialty Services-Psychiatry, the Psychiatrist will work with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that quality psychosocial services are delivered to health center patients. Psychiatrists provide direct mental health care to patients who receive primary care at LifeLong Medical Care. Psychiatrists also provide consultation to non-psychiatric providers as well as individual and group supervision to psychiatric advanced practice providers. Patients are referred for psychiatric care from all Health Center/Program locations throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
This position is represented by UAPD. Salaries and benefits are set by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and an employee in this position must remain a member in good standing of UAPD, as defined in the CBA.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of primarily psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient.
Assesses patients through interviews, observations, tests, and medical history reviews.
Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response.
Provides verbal and written education and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers.
Plans follow-up care, including requests for outside consultations and evaluations.
Maintains patient records necessary for clinic reporting, billing, and quality improvement.
Functions potentially in a variety of settings, including a health center, skilled nursing facilities, supportive housing sites, and in clients' homes.
Provides patients with emotional support and strategies to help manage their disorder.
Stay current with new developments in psychiatry and mental health.
Participates as a member of the site clinical services team and attends clinical team meetings.
Coordinates care with other health team members, including case management and behavioral health staff, clinical consultation with other clinicians.
Acts as an advocate for the patient and liaison with outside agencies as appropriate.

Job Summary: The SMH Psychiatrist On-Call diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. This position assesses patients' psychiatric symptoms and medical conditions, gathers information on psychosocial history and onset of symptoms, develops a treatment plan, prescribes medications, and follows up. This position reports to the SMH Medical Director.
Note: We are looking for candidates who can work 1 day per week. Essential Job Functions
Medical/Psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment of persistently and severely mentally ill adult clients, and children/youth with mental health disorders, by funders' standard of care protocol
Review and approve clinical treatment plans
Working closely with behavioral health clinicians, case managers, and wellness program staff to ensure client care coordination
Consultation to staff regarding diagnosis, treatment, and other medical issues
Provide coordinated and integrated care with Primary Care providers
Documenting all services performed using the agency's electronic health records system
Complies with all Quality Assurance requirements
Participating in case conferences, training sessions, peer reviews, utilization reviews, chart audits, quality assurance reviews
General Agency Duties
Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
Enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of client confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules, to ensure that the principles of AHS are implemented.
Plays an active role in planning organization-wide activities such as AHS general membership meetings, fundraisers, special clinic days, and other events.
Participates in general membership meetings, fundraisers, and other public events, as required.
Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
Attends AHS staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as required.
Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
MD degree completed residency and/or fellowship
Preferred Qualifications
Board-certified Adult, Adolescent, or Child Psychiatrist preferred.
Experience with Electronic Health Records
Bilingual/bicultural in an Asian Language
Experience with an underserved population
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Valid DEA Certificate
Current license to practice medicine in California with no disciplinary actions
