Sibley Memorial Hospital - Member of the Johns Hopkins Health System Washington DC The Physician Assistant (Surgical PA-C, Licensed) provides direct assistance to the primary surgeon during surgical procedures. Prefer PA applicants with 5 years of experience in surgical assistance or successful completion of a Physician Assistant ? Surgical Program or Surgical residency. Knowledge of and ability to maintain sterile technique required. Knowledgeable about diagnostic ancillary testing and interpretation of test results, medications and current treatment regimes required. The Physician Assistant performs preoperative histories and physicals on patients for each attending physician. Writes post-op notes and orders for each patient in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). May respond to calls from nursing units regarding clinical management of the surgical patients, assessing, diagnosing and writing orders on behalf of the attending physician. Performs special clinical procedures under the direction of the attending physician. Qualifications: Graduate of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant Program. Maintains current NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) Certification by CME every 2 years and recertifies every 6 years by examination. Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the District of Columbia. Basic CPR certification is required. ACLS certification for block room utilization. One year of experience in surgical assistance or successful completion of a Physician Assistant ? Surgical Program or Surgical residency. You must be fully credentialled by the Sibley Memorial Hospital medical board with staff privileges to start working.
