Under the direction of the Medical Director of the UCI MIND ADRC, the incumbent will administer standardized cognitive and related assessments to older adult research participants and patients enrolled in the ADRC's longitudinal cohort, clinical trials, and related clinical research projects.
The role also supports additional collaborative clinical programs involving neuropsychological and structured assessments.
Primary responsibilities include (1) Administer routine and complex batteries of neuropsychological and other structured clinical assessments to patients and research participants, (2) scoring and interpretation of psychometric tests, (3) interview and collect data from patients/participants and caregivers, (4) consensus diagnosis and research data analysis with research clinician team, (5) report writing and documentation, and (6) assist with screening and scheduling of patients/participants.
This role requires empathy and attentiveness to the physical and psychological needs of older adults and individuals with neurocognitive disorders.
The incumbent should be comfortable functioning within an academic research setting and is expected to participate in research studies as part of routine duties.
The role also includes training responsibilities and shared oversight and supervision of neuropsychology and other trainees.

Contract Description/Overview:
Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in LHI's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.

On March 19, 2009, construction of a new Navy hospital for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was approved in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The replacement of the Camp Pendleton hospital was the largest ARRA project in the Department of the Navy. The ground breaking for the 500,000-square-foot, four-story building was December 2, 2010, with construction being completed October 17, 2013. The command transitioned to the new facility over a two week period from December 2 - 15, 2013. A Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held January 31, 2014, to officially open the facility.
Responsibilities
This position is as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC). The Primary Care Behavioral Health Program provides a team-based approach to healthcare by integrating behavioral health providers and registered nurses into Primary
Care Clinics to deliver evidence-based biopsychosocial assessment, treatment, prevention and management of behavioral health problems and biopsychosocially influenced health conditions for Military Health System
beneficiaries.
MAJOR DUTIES
1. Serves as a Clinical Psychologist Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for the Clinic and Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC) Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) program. Makes mental health diagnoses in accordance with
the most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) when differential diagnosis is required. Provides individual and group treatment, using various modalities as clinically indicated to
include brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes. Assesses acute mental health and behavioral medicine conditions in beneficiaries who present with such issues. Maintains
appropriate documentation of patient care in accordance with current unit and hospital standard operating procedures (SOPs) and current DoD, DHA PCBH, Federal and state regulations. Maintains performance and conduct in accordance
with current unit and hospital SOPs; current DoD, DHA, Federal and state regulations; and professional ethics. Assesses and provides intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions, and behavioral
health issues affecting medical conditions to include assessment and disposition of beneficiaries with acute and chronic risk. Provides treatment via targeted and efficient appointments for initial and follow-up visits. Performs PCBH
biopsychosocial evaluations using expert knowledge of clinical and clinical health psychology. Conducts outpatient group classes, stress management, relaxation training, assertive/social skills training, smoking cessation training,
substance abuse identification and brief related interventions appropriate for primary care, as well as evidencedbased interventions for mastery of behavioral health conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression, post traumatic symptoms
etc.) and behavioral medicine conditions (e.g. insomnia, acute and chronic pain, diabetes, weight management etc.) as required. Participates in quality assurance activities. Provides psychological and clinical consultation to physicians,
other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels. Provides feedback to Primary Care Managers (PCMs) regarding consultation findings and recommendations as directed by the current DHA PCBH
Administrative Instruction.
Consults with primary care providers to select, approve, and document treatment priorities in SMART goal format. Serves as the authority on primary care psychology for the clinic. Educates clinic staff on the principles of primary
care behavioral health via trainings and briefings. Conducts meetings and conferences to review the level of care for appropriateness of treatment in primary care and evaluate and approve referral sources. Establishes cooperative
agreements among various providers and clinics throughout the Military Treatment Facility (MTF). Monitors, evaluates, and approves use of community resources. Provides reports and approves consults. Uses objective
behavioral outcome measures to evaluate progress in treatment.
2. Provides evidenced-based individual treatment and psychoeducational classes for patients enrolled in primary care clinics. Provides expertise in human behavior as a primary care team member and provides consultation to primary care and specialty clinic providers regarding psychological treatment options to optimize health outcomes. Assists primary care providers with the treatment of patients with known high-risk factors such as suicide, history of trauma, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Conducts PCBH model treatment, monitors, approves, and documents all, treatment goals. Reviews and approves the appropriate modality of treatment for each patient. Develops treatment processes and procedures for orientation of patients. Evaluates information/education processes. Institutes changes to increase effectiveness of treatment efforts. Evaluates appropriateness of treatment goals. Determines appropriate dispositions for severe cases. Provides structure and procedures for organization of case staffing information.
Establishes policies for case consultation.
3. Executes performance initiatives (PI) through revision of clinical standards and procedures; and performs a variety of quality management/quality assurance (QM/QA) duties to meet the Joint Commission (TJC) requirements.
Evaluates clinical records and monitors all objective instrument administration and scoring for quality assurance. Evaluates environment of care. Monitors all risk management issues and takes appropriate action. Establishes and
executes performance initiatives. Works with primary care team to develop processes to increase same day “warm handoffs” of patients from the primary care provider to the BHC. Works to increase overall penetration into the
enrolled clinic population by targeting common conditions with behavioral components that are amenable to BHC intervention. Performs daily activities to increase BHC clinical productivity (e.g. scrubbing PCM appointment lists,
circulating in the clinic and consulting with staff, being vocal in morning huddles etc.). Establishes and monitors objective behavioral outcome measures. Evaluates and revises standard operating procedures. Conducts program
evaluation. Consults with ancillary care providers. Substantiates the results of crisis intervention. Reviews data provided in reports of special actions. Reviews statistical data to modify program goals. Evaluates and approves
educational materials for use by clinic staff and patients.
4. Provides consultation regarding interpretation and approval of outcome measures and screening instruments. Develops, implements, and evaluates professional development activities, coordinates inter and intra-departmental
in-service training on PCBH related topics. Evaluates scope of practice and makes adjustments for increased adherence and efficacy as needed. Evaluates training opportunities, development activities, and orientation activities.

The doctoral program must have included 1500 hours of clinical internship. An employment start date will not be provided until the degree is received and a Professional Licensing Waiver is granted by the Department of Health Care Services. A copy of transcript is required upon appointment.

The Primary Care Behavioral Health Program provides a team-based approach to healthcare by integrating behavioral health providers and registered nurses into PrimaryCare Clinics to deliver evidence-based biopsychosocial assessment, treatment, prevention and management of behavioral health problems and biopsychosocially influenced health conditions for Military Health Systembeneficiaries.
MAJOR DUTIES
1. Serves as a Clinical Psychologist Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for the Clinic and Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC) Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) program. Makes mental health diagnoses in accordance withthe most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) when differential diagnosis is required. Provides individual and group treatment, using various modalities as clinically indicated toinclude brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes. Assesses acute mental health and behavioral medicine conditions in beneficiaries who present with such issues. Establishes cooperative agreements among various providers and clinics throughout the Military Treatment Facility (MTF). Monitors, evaluates, and approves use of community resources. 2. Provides evidenced-based individual treatment and psychoeducational classes for patients enrolled in primary care clinics. Provides expertise in human behavior as a primary care team member and provides consultation to primary care and specialty clinic providers regarding psychological treatment options to optimize health outcomes. Assists primary care providers with the treatment of patients with known high-risk factors such as suicide, history of trauma, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Conducts PCBH model treatment, monitors, approves, and documents all, treatment goals. Reviews and approves the appropriate modality of treatment for each patient. Develops treatment processes and procedures for orientation of patients. Evaluates information/education processes. Institutes changes to increase effectiveness of treatment efforts. 3. What would you do?
Conduct Psychological Evaluations
Complete intake process and develop an evaluation strategy.
Administer appropriate assessment protocol consistent with professional and insurance guidelines.
Formulate diagnostic conclusions based on collected information.
Provide clear verbal and written communication of findings and recommendations within a timely manner to caregivers.
Complete notes and reports within a timely manner.
Support in-center and community collaboration
Meet Board Supervision expectations
Participate in clinical case study meetings bi-weekly, including leading and presenting cases as required by the Clinical Director.
Consult with ABS Kids staff regarding mental health needs of ABA clients and their caregivers.
Work to ensure a smooth referral process between in-house services and community partners.
Communicate effectively with caregivers, community partners, and treatment providers.
