Summary:
The Psychologist evaluates inmates/detainees/residents (I/D/R) for mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Diagnoses disorders and determines the appropriate course of treatment.
Responsible for directing and coordinating mental health functions as well as supervising and training staff members.
Role and Responsibilities:
Your primary role is to evaluate and diagnose inmates/detainees/residents (I/D/R) for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. In this role, you will:
Perform psychological evaluation on I/D/R population for mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Provide appropriate diagnosis based on history and presenting symptoms and makes appropriate treatment recommendations.
Evaluate I/D/R's mental status and severity of symptoms in determining the need for transfer to a higher level of care or placement under observation due to suicide risk or inability to adjust within regular population due to severity of symptoms.
Provide psychotherapy or counseling for the treatment of psychological disorders or mental illness.
Make appropriate referrals as necessary to a psychiatrist or other licensed professional who specializes in prescribing psychotropic medication.
Demonstrate an awareness of the psychotropic medications, monitors medication compliance, and makes referrals to the appropriate licensed medical professional should the I/D/R exhibit possible medication side effects.
Instruct staff and officers in recognizing suicide risk factors and subsequent prevention techniques.
Provide in-service education for medical and correctional staff as required. Performs and trains staff on crisis intervention techniques as required.
Perform administrative duties in keeping accurate records of I/D/R encounters, documenting all services provided, filling out required reports and analyses as required.
Consult with the Physician or Psychiatrist as needed for the proper health care needs of the I/D/R.
Participate in review of the quality of care provided.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in LHI's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.
Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations.
Behavior Health exams are scheduled in 90+ minutes for a comprehensive exam for assessing PTSD, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
•• Exam submission must be completed online, but no typing is necessary while the Veteran is present; time is provided throughout the day for dictation to ensure the flow of the patient interview is not disrupted.
Education/Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be a PhD or PsyD, with a major in Psychology, who graduated from a doctorate or post-doctorate APA accredited program or a BC/BE MD. Qualified candidates must be actively licensed and able to work independently and as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required depending on assignment. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. Compensation Differential: Clinical therapists regularly assigned to work in detention facilities or in the Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit at ARMC receive additional compensation. Indicate your interest and availability for such positions on the Supplemental Questionnaire.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Waiver of Licensure: Pre-licensed Psychologists must be eligible for waiver of licensure under State laws and regulations and obtain the required Mental Health waiver prior to the commencement of employment. Pre-Licensed Psychologists must become licensed by the State of California within five (5) years of the original waiver or be terminated. Upon obtaining license, employees may be promoted to Licensed Psychologist I* ($7,240.13 - $10,223.20 monthly).

* The California Department of Health Care Services may grant a waiver for those who were previously licensed in another state and considered license ready in CA according to the Board of Psychology criteria, for up to three (3) years. Offers of employment are contingent on the applicant's ability to obtain waiver and obtain licensure within three (3) years of the date of the waiver. At the interview, all pre-licensed and license ready applicants will sign a Statement of Awareness of the Requirement to Obtain Licensure for Continued Employment.
Degree: Must have received or be within three (3) months of receiving a doctorate degree in psychology, educational psychology, education with a field specialization in counseling psychology or educational psychology from an approved or accredited educational institution that meets the educational requirements for licensure.
The doctoral program must have included 1500 hours of clinical internship. An employment start date will not be provided until the degree is received and a Professional Licensing Waiver is granted by the Department of Health Care Services. A copy of transcript is required upon appointment.
Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. * Working with incarcerated individuals in correctional settings, such as institutions/locked detention facilities or with probationers/offenders recently released from a correctional setting.

Clinical Responsibilities (Direct Client Care)
Perform psychological assessment intakes for a student population

Provide clinical supervision to the post-doctoral fellows of MCAPS when the program is active

We are hiring a Clinical Psychologist to join our team of talented medical professionals to conduct a one-time, non-treatment Veteran Disability Exam in San Bernardino, CA.
Employment Status: Full Time
Compensation: This is a salaried position, paid bi-weekly.
Schedule: Full Time, Monday- Friday, Primarily onsite, 3-4 days/week, 1 day telehealth optional

Requirements: The Clinical Psychologist must have and meet the following:
Requirement Qualifications:
Must be a psychologist or psychiatrist licensed in at least one state in the United States.
Psychiatrists or Neurologists must be board certified or must have completed a 2-year residency with either specialty
Psychologists must obtain a PhD or PsyD with a Major in Psychology; Specialty studies must focus on the adult population such as Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology (or a combination of these). Child-focused psychology programs are not acceptable.
Psychologists must have graduated from a doctorate or post-doctorate APA-accredited program.
Certification: Have an active and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Demonstrates compassion and professionalism and a commitment to providing excellent service and care.
Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and using EMR and platforms.
Skilled in professional communication, critical thinking, and informed-care decision-making.
Works independently and can manage time in order to provide a quality service while meeting set deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in clinical settings
Prior VA or C&P experience
Job Summary:
Review pertinent mental health history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment behavioral health compensation and pensions exams for Veterans.
The Clinical Psychologist will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form(s); all documentation will be completed electronically. Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations.
Common reasons for assessment are PTSD, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.

Work to ensure a smooth referral process between in-house services and community partners.
Communicate effectively with caregivers, community partners, and treatment providers.
