Conducts psychological screenings and assessments based on review of available records, and clinical interviews with inmates.
As part of a mental health team, confers with other clinical staff, e.g., psychiatrists, mental health service providers, physicians, nurses, social workers, in order to gather and provide information concerning patient psychological problems, to ensure treatment activities are well integrated, and patient care follow-through occurs.
Provides treatment to inmates by developing, implementing, and modifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needs and level of functioning.
Makes regular rounds in segregation or other confined housing areas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatment needs.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of psychological counseling theory and techniques by way of treatments and activities used for individuals in caseload.
Provides appropriate mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation avoidance interventions to address the needs of inmates in crisis.
Consults with psychiatry, mental health, nursing, medical, educational, chaplain, security staff, and others, as applicable to gather information and understanding into the reasons for the escalation of problems behaviors and changes in mental health condition of inmates.

Overview
Children's Mercy Kansas City is launching new programs to treat youth with medical/psychiatric or complex neurobehavioral treatment needs, including a partial hospitalization program (phased opening began in August of 2025) and a medical/surgical inpatient unit (planned opening February 2026). The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health is recruiting a clinical psychologist to join a robust interdisciplinary team which includes clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, BCBAs, pediatricians, licensed clinical social workers, nurses, dieticians, child life specialists, art/music therapists, and teachers, as well as support staff, including a care coordinator/discharge planner.
We are recruiting a psychologist to support the high acuity programs including the partial hospitalization program and step-down care. Ideal candidates will have training and/or experience with youth who have both medical and psychiatric presenting concerns, and/or neurodevelopmental/genetic disorders. Experience conducting diagnostic interviews, delivering individual, family, and group treatments, and conducting targeted psychological testing is desired.
This position will include teaching in the hospital's pediatric medical and psychology training programs. It will also include protected academic time for service, research, and other scholarly activities. Faculty mentoring is provided for all new faculty members and additional support is available for those interested in clinical scholarship (e.g., program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives). This position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Overview
Children's Mercy is seeking a clinical child psychologist to join our expanding Depression and Anxiety in Youth (DAY) Clinic. This role will include diagnostic assessment, delivery of evidence-based individual and group interventions, and multidisciplinary collaboration with psychiatry, advanced practice nursing professionals, and clinical social workers. The position also offers opportunities for the candidate to spend time in other general clinical child focused assessment and therapy activities outside of the DAY clinic. The innovative DAY clinic opened in February 2023 with the intent to increase community access and equity of care for mood disorders through coordinated individual and group therapy and medication intervention and interdisciplinary team management of patients. Future program development opportunities are ongoing and there is strong community support for the program.

Overview
Children's Mercy Kansas City has 3 openings for pediatric psychologists to join our rapidly expanding team of pediatric psychologists who provide care to patients across over 31 integrated programs across the hospital through outpatient assessment and targeted consultation, and inpatient consultation, with growing needs identified across multiple surgical subspeciality areas.
