Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in LHI's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.

Environmental Requirements

Administers standard/requested psychometric test batteries to all patients referred by the multidisciplinary treatment teams and consults on and coordinates activities with other professional staff as part of multidisciplinary treatment teams.
The Registered Psychologist is also required to carry a caseload providing counseling and psychotherapy and may be required to co-lead therapy groups.

The Clinical Psychology Intern is an individual who is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in clinical psychology at a recognized university or professional school. The clinical psychology internship provides the final required year of applied clinical service in psychology training.
As an Affiliate Member of DSH-Metropolitan Psychology Services, the Clinical Psychology Intern adheres to the following: Psychology Service Rules and Regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws, Administrative Directives, and all DSH-Metropolitan policies and procedures. The Clinical Psychology Intern aspires to the highest standards of the profession through efforts to practice in accordance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Guidelines, Specialty Guidelines, and Standards for Providers of Psychological Services. The Clinical Psychology Intern familiarizes herself/himself with, and conforms psychology practices, to the laws and regulations governing the practice of psychology in the state of California.
During the course of training, the Clinical Psychology Intern is expected to develop the skills and expertise required of the journeyman level clinical psychologist, with some specialized skills in the area of forensic psychology and treatment of the severely mentally ill. The internship is a training program; as such, the Clinical Psychology Intern is not privileged to practice independently within DSH-Metropolitan. All direct psychological services are provided under the supervision, hospital privileges, and professional license of a Staff Psychologist (Health Facility - Clinical), Senior Psychologist Specialist, or Senior Psychologist Supervisor. All written work products, including reports, consultation, and progress notes, are counter signed by the licensed psychologist who provided clinical supervision for that work.

Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS:
Under the overall direction of the Chief Medical Officer and the Supervising Psychologist, the Registered Psychologist performs psycho-diagnostic assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, and behavior modification interventions to assess patient needs, give direction in and/or initiate treatment with patients and, when appropriate, significant others.
Administers standard/requested psychometric test batteries to all patients referred by the multidisciplinary treatment teams and consults on and coordinates activities with other professional staff as part of multidisciplinary treatment teams.
The Registered Psychologist is also required to carry a caseload providing counseling and psychotherapy and may be required to co-lead therapy groups.
Under the supervision of the Psychologist, upon patient's admission, reviews any psychological testing done within the preceding two years and explains the findings to the multidisciplinary treatment team, to facilitate their understanding of the patient's emotional and behavioral issues; if patient has not been tested within the past two years, conducts a psychological assessment including clinical interview and psychological testing, as required, produces a written report, and presents the results to the multidisciplinary treatment team; based on the findings of psychological assessment, gives treatment recommendations as part of the multidisciplinary treatment, attends and participates in the multidisciplinary treatment meetings.
Maintains accurate and current documentation of all contacts with patient and significant others in the patient's clinical record; works collaboratively with the Rehabilitation Department to design and implement a behavior modification program in the Children unit incorporating the Recovery Model principles; provides individual, group and family psychotherapy as needed; provides crisis intervention for emergency situations; coordinates all psychometric activities for the multidisciplinary treatment team;
Coordinates and schedules treatment services with other program components when appropriate.
