Position Summary:
Position responsible for identifying, triaging and co-managing patients with medical and behavioral health problems within the primary care setting by providing the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. The PCBH model is designed to provide population-based care services within the setting of primary care. The goals of the PCBH model is for the Behavioral Health Consultant to provide the acronym GATHER: Be a Generalist; Be Accessible; Be a Team Player; Be Highly productive in number of patient visits per day; Be an Educator to patients and team about behavioral health needs; and Be a Routine part of patient healthcare.
Compensation is dependent on skills and experience.
Your contribution to the team includes:
* Collaborate with primary care providers and other team members in recognizing and treating mental health conditions, substance use/misuse. subclinical presentations of distress, psychosocial problems, promoting preventive medicine interventions, chronic condition management, and other behavioral needs of our patient population.
* Given primary care can be a fast pace, high needs environment, a BHC needs to be able to provide population-based health approaches to behavioral health care which includes: Establishing behavioral health services within the clinic as routine patient care, assessing and triaging patient care in the teachable moment (when patients are engaging medical team members, called a warm handoff), balance scheduled visits with warm handoff opportunities so that behavioral health services are assessable to all, engage in brief assessments/screeners to assess a patient level of functioning and possible risk level, and be a generalist (work with all patients of our healthcare system no matter the age or clinical need).
* Work with primary care providers to refer cases to mental health specialists as appropriate and bridge care to these patients until patient is successful in connecting with more traditional mental health services.
* Provide brief behavioral health visits modeled after the pace and needs of primary care. The PCBH model goal is to reach more patients and have a larger impact on our patient community. A typical scheduled visit is for behavioral health is about 30 minutes in length while warm handoff visits can vary from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Schedule follow-ups with patients based upon clinical need while keeping access to behavioral health services in mind.
* Be effective in communication with team members about patient care including providing consultation to primary care providers and other team members about assessments of patient care needs and recommended interventions.
* Teach patients evidence supported interventions to assist in self-care, preventive medicine, quality of life improvement, and improved functionality. Equally important is to be an educator of these techniques to patients' families and primary care team members so they can assist in disseminating and reinforcing strategies as well. There are additional opportunities to participate in presentations to staff on behavioral health topics to assist in further opportunities to educate our teams.
* Conduct, design and co-lead as needed group classes and group visits to promote skill building, education, and improved health for the patient.
* Monitor the site's behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services, making recommendations for quality improvement and clinical pathways, and identify linkages to beneficial community resources and external specialty services.
* Attend and participate in behavioral health meetings, site meetings, and Quality Improvement activities as required.
* Respond to patient or co-worker complaints and work toward a positive resolution of any dispute.
* Serve as a member of site committees as requested.
* Participate in evaluation of peers, support staff, and supervisor as required.
* Provide assistance in the efforts to grow Behavioral Health services in the organization as required.
* Assist in the evaluation of the behavioral health program: review utilization data, establish outcomes to measure quality of life improvements, and cost effectiveness of population-based programming.
* Support our Behavioral Health Education Program by being willing to provide mentorship to a trainee (pre-intern, intern, or resident) as well as provide some secondary individual and/or group supervision to trainees as needed. Per state licensing laws, can only provide up to 25% of individual supervision to a trainee within a training year.

Currently recruiting a Psychologist in Tacoma, WA to coordinate complex clinical operations at a facility that houses individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) is a licensed independent clinical psychologist who serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in mental health and substance use disorder (s). The BHP possess a high level of skill in the assessment, diagnoses, and treatment of patients with mental health concerns, and/or serious mental illness or serious mental disorders (SMI/SMD).
DUTIES OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST:
Provides direction and oversight to multidisciplinary team in the implementation and management of an integrated mental health treatment program.
Provides direct care to patients within discipline Scope of Practice and performs functions in accordance with current accepted practice, licensure, certification, credentialing and or granted privileges.
Provides treatment of persons throughout the life span as appropriate to discipline and facility setting.
May be expected to respond to and or coordinate response to medical emergencies.
May be expected to provide telehealth services based on patient needs and healthcare situation.

Contract Description/Overview:
Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in LHI's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.

Serves as the suicide prevention program coordinator in the absence of the Supervisory Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) and as assigned by Clinical Director if no Supervisory BHP is present.
Serves as a mental health consultant to other health professionals at the facility.
Develops training/clinical education materials as required and provides clinical education and training to medical, ICE, and contract staff.
Provides education and training to ICE and medical staff in the area of mental health to include, but not limited to, suicide prevention, hunger strike, abuse and neglect and victims of torture.
Responsible for all case management which may involve community treatment placement, hospital placement, or other after care situations.
Coordinates and monitors program functions, including Post Order Custody Reviews (POCR), and Availability of Health Care Programs.
Obtains information to assist IHSC in responding to external inquiries regarding ICE Case Management Unit-related issues.
Coordinate with HQ Behavioral Health Unit for continuity of care for placement in, or treatment of, residents in appropriate settings as required by the conditions of release outlined by ICE.
Utilizes EHR system for completing clinical assessments, evaluations, advanced care/placement referral initiation and transfer/discharge summaries. .
Assists the case management team in developing detail-oriented research into the availability of healthcare resources for patients as needed upon discharge.
Assists the local performance improvement coordinator in the completion of clinical performance improvement activities/risk identification and management directly related to mental health healthcare in countries worldwide.
Provides oversight and consultation to behavioral health technicians and interns, as applicable.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
