Current services include individual, family, and couples counseling, as well as neurofeedback, with planned expansion into group therapy and integrated psychiatric medication management.
We are seeking a licensed Psychologist interested in outpatient clinical work, interdisciplinary collaboration, and contributing to the thoughtful growth of a modern private practice.
Position Overview
The Psychologist will provide outpatient psychotherapy services and may have opportunities to participate in psychological assessment, neurofeedback services, group programming, and future integrated care initiatives, depending on interest and training. This role offers a high degree of clinical autonomy within a collegial group practice setting.
Responsibilities
• Provide outpatient psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and/or families
• Complete assessments, treatment planning, and clinical documentation in accordance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including therapists, trainees, and future medication providers
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record
• Participate in consultation, case discussion, and quality improvement activities

Qualifications
• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling

Contract Description/Overview:
Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in LHI's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.
Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations.
Behavior Health exams are scheduled in 90+ minutes for a comprehensive exam for assessing PTSD, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
•• Exam submission must be completed online, but no typing is necessary while the Veteran is present; time is provided throughout the day for dictation to ensure the flow of the patient interview is not disrupted.
Education/Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be a PhD or PsyD, with a major in Psychology, who graduated from a doctorate or post-doctorate APA accredited program or a BC/BE MD. Qualified candidates must be actively licensed and able to work independently and as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. Candidates must possess basic computer skills.
*Compensation exam or VA experience is preferred, but not required. Module Training is provided.

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive treatment to patients adjudicated NGRI, including comprehensive risk assessment and risk management strategies as well as necessary forensic report writing for progression through the graduated privileging process. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to conducting initial and ongoing psychological assessments, providing individual treatment sessions to address relevant risk management issues and treatment issues, treatment planning through core membership on a treatment team, psychotherapy groups, as well as behavioral consultation and program development as needed, and providing supervision and training for Psychology students (intern and practicum).

clearances, mental competency determination for legal and administrative issues and

Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH has proudly been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870, when we opened our doors as the first psychiatric hospital in the country dedicated to the treatment of African Americans. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the same property, with a scheduled completion date of 2027.
CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds). We also have 166 beds available for individuals in the community who need inpatient care, as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. We believe that treatment should be holistic and focused on the person's individual needs, recognizing that recovery is not linear or the same for every person. Treatment modalities may include medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, preparation for court, and treatment for substance use.
Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Clinical Psychologist to join our dynamic inpatient treatment team. The Clinical Psychologist completes initial, annual, and suicide risk assessments; conducts NGRI Acquittee Privilege Requests, Submission Reports, Commissioner-Appointed Evaluations, and Initial Analysis of Risk Reports by assigned deadlines; and provides comprehensive psychological testing and high-quality clinical documentation. This role actively participates in interdisciplinary Treatment Team meetings, offering consultation on client progress, assessment findings, and treatment needs, while assisting with the development and review of individualized treatment plans and ensuring timely completion of TPR notes. The psychologist facilitates assigned PSR groups, provides individual therapy and competency restoration, and develops behavioral interventions-including functional assessments and full behavior treatment plans-while monitoring patient response and preparing monthly case summaries for the Behavior Management Committee. Additional responsibilities include completing required DBHDS trainings, maintaining licensure through continuing education, modeling professional conduct, supporting least-restrictive interventions, and demonstrating cultural awareness and respect in all interactions.
