Oceana seeks a GraphicDesigner to join Oceana's dynamic and fast-paced Global Marketing and Communications team. The GraphicDesigner is responsible for creating compelling visuals (in print and web) for a variety of audiences (e.g., media, elected officials, funders, and supporters) to help support Oceana's mission. Additionally, the GraphicDesigner will work across the organization to support Oceana's U.S. and global campaigns, fundraising efforts, supporter growth and outreach, and increasing visibility for the organization's brand. The GraphicDesigner reports to Oceana's Creative Director and will be based in Washington, DC.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Conceptualize and develop high-level strategic materials, including reports, fact sheets, infographics, Print PSAs and advertisements, and social media graphics
Work with Creative Director to help continue to grow and elevate Oceana's visual brand identity, and review materials to ensure brand guideline fidelity
Provide support to Multimedia Producers with graphic elements for videos and animations
Provide photo support, including headshots, store product photos, and events
Develop and elevate materials for Oceana branding, including side brands, like LegaSea and Sailors for the Sea
Assist with the production of reports and other materials, working closely with the campaign teams, communications staff, and outside vendors
Design collateral materials, such as cards, invitations, and giveaways
Design presentations for senior management, EC members, and other experts
Develop graphics for our social media channels, including Facebook, X, and Instagram
Manage Oceana's designed materials and other visual assets, including photos
Provide design support for Oceana's U.S. and International website, including the blog
Assist with other Global Marcomm activities as needed
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree in graphicdesign or related field
At least three years of experience in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong graphicdesign skills and familiarity with materials design
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (special focus on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), Microsoft Office Suite (special focus on PowerPoint) and other primary graphicdesign programs
Strong photography skills, including shooting and editing digital photos
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills adaptable to a variety of audiences
Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to synthesize and convey complicated information quickly and accurately for lay audiences
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a team player to coordinate projects, and work effectively with a variety of personalities
Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure while maintaining humor and high energy
Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment, manage multiple assignments, and coordinate with all levels within the organization
Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation
Comfortable with ambiguity and able to identify opportunities in times of change

Experience with WordPress is a plus
Multimedia visual storytelling experience is a plus, including knowledge of digital video, animation, photography, audio, and production processes and workflows
Familiarity with web design is a plus
In-depth knowledge of social media tools, networks, and online communities is a plus
Interest in ocean conservation and Oceana's campaigns is a plus
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 annually.

The Associate, Design is an important role on the Integrated Brand Team, which consists of the creative, storytelling and digital marketing teams within the Communications department at Share Our Strength. This role supports the organization's social media and other digital and print design projects, manages a suite of digital design templates and PowerPoint decks, and helps to maintain brand integrity across all of our design work. Its focus is on strengthening brand awareness and serving the needs of various internal business owners and external stakeholders.
All interested candidates at the time of applying for this position must provide a diverse portfolio of digital ads, implemented social campaigns, print, and editorial design.
This position is preferably based in Washington, DC, but could be fully remote for the right candidate. The position offers a salary range of $60k-$65k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Senior Manager, other designers and the Brand team to develop consistent, innovative design for all of the organization s social channels as well as other digital content including ads, websites, data visualization, infographics, motion graphics, etc.
Assist with design and production work of branded marketing and event materials, as needed.
As the design team s point of contact for social engagement, work closely with our social media team to develop compelling visual content and ideas to elevate the brand, both as part of the brand s long term strategic vision as well as during rapid response moments.
Monitor and report on social media content trends, technology changes, and innovations in the landscape. Explore and implement new ideas, analyze and identify effective content, and test content variations.
Maintain a consistent visual brand presence across our social media properties (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.)
Work closely with other teams to create and update PowerPoint decks and resources to help secure successful partnerships and aid in fundraising goals.
Lead the creation of Canva specific templates and manage updates of all templated materials for teams across the organization. Help manage and deploy a library of templated assets.
Work closely with program and field teams to identify design needs and provide templated solutions.
Support illustration efforts for all campaigns and programs
Execute production and design support on a wide variety of print projects, working directly with printers and other external vendors to garner quotes and produce quality materials. Must be able to pre-press materials to go to print.
Create and update fact sheets, postcards and other collateral material. General updates of all templated materials for teams across the organization.
Help maintaining design team processes, digital asset management platform, traffic systems and production timelines.
Download and organize photos from events and site visits. Research stock photography options as needed.
Retouch and edit photos.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor s degree in graphic or communication arts or equivalent preferred
3+ years of demonstrated graphicdesign experience (nonprofit and/or agency experience a plus).
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and MS Office is required.
Knowledge of other Adobe software including Premiere, XD, AfterEffects, as well as experience with CapCut, Canva, Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, HTML/CSS and WordPress are a plus.
Proven skills in typography, layout, and branding, and enthusiasm for new design trends and technological resources.
Familiarity with digital platforms, including the most up-to-date digital trends and user and social media best practices.
Strong illustration skills, and ability to adapt to branding style.
Knowledge and experience with project management platforms, familiarity of Asana is a plus.
Experience with video production and/or photography skills are a plus.
General understanding of printing methods and print production.
