PFM is seeking two interns to work in our Management & Budget Consulting (MBC) group during the summer of 2026. The MBC group is based in Philadelphia and New Orleans, however, all work arrangements are authorized - in-office, hybrid, and remote. Intern applications will be accepted through January 15, 2026.
MBC turns analysis into results for complex government clients by providing financial, budgetary, operations, and management consultation. Since 1993, MBC has been involved in some of the most significant government turnaround efforts in the country: turning sizable deficits into surpluses in cities, counties and states and improving criminal justice systems across the nation.
The Intern contributes directly to projects and advises real policy decisions made by government leaders. Interested candidates should be creative problem solvers, ready to help government leaders tackle real problems that matter to their communities.
The MBC Internship involves:
• Benchmarking and measuring performance of state and municipal governments including large cities, counties, and school districts
• Analyzing data, including demographic, economic, and budgetary trends that signal current and future fiscal and operational challenges
• Conducting research on innovative government practices that improve services to residents or reduce costs for taxpayers
Key Attributes of Interns:

• Undergraduate junior, senior, postgraduate, or master's candidate with coursework in government, political science, economics, public policy and/or related areas of study

RESPONSIBILITIES
Learn about the municipal finance industry and understand how macroeconomic events impact bond pricing.
Learn to use Excel and DBC Finance software at a high level to analyze financial information and produce financing options for a broad range of municipal bond structures.
Manage debt portfolios and identify refinancing opportunities for existing financial advisory clients and key prospects, including primarily local governments, state governments and public agencies.
Analyze and produce detailed cash flows for client plans of finance and borrowing programs using sophisticated debt structuring alternatives & financing techniques.
Assist with creating rating agency scorecards for various industry sectors based on rating methodologies from the major credit rating agencies.
Prepare presentations for use in rating agency communication, client communication and marketing with a focus on quantitative elements supporting such work products.
Create and deliver presentations, reports and summaries that outline financial scenarios and recommendations to clients.
Contribute to the review of financial and legal documents for all transactions and projects to which you are assigned.
Assist project managers with assembling responses to Request for Proposals/Qualifications (RFPs/RFQs) for current and potential new clients.
Complete assignments in a timely manner and communicate assignment progress with internal staff on a regular basis.

Advisory Consultant

The internal Sales team engages with financial advisors through virtual meetings, phone calls, and digital communications regarding our mutual fund and seperate accounts product suite.
