Summary:
Utilize evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to assess and reassess nutrition risk and identify nutrition needs. Develop and implement nutrition care plans to support oral and/or nutrition support needs. Participate in quality improvement initiatives/committees. Provide nutrition counseling to patients and families as warranted. Participate in multidisciplinary interaction and education.
Primarily working in dedicated area of expertise, supported by board certification in a nutrition specialty. Specialty areas include but not limited to NICU, bariatric, renal, cardiac, diabetes, nutrition support, pediatrics, oncology, transplant, and geriatrics.
Responsibilities And Duties:
Performs nutrition assessment using age-appropriate standards, utilizing validated assessment tools and nutrition focused physical assessments. Includes documentation of nutrition related diagnosis when indicated.
Demonstrate proficiency in accordance with Standards of Practice and Professional Performance for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist while providing age-appropriate plan of care for patients and families.
Coordinates nutrition therapy with physicians and other health care professionals. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and care planning sessions.
Plans, implements, and adapts nutritional care plan to meet physician orders, age, and disease specific physiologic needs. Intervention plan includes appropriate feeding route, mode, and nutrition prescription.
Teach cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to promote positive lifestyle changes.
Serves as an active member on multidisciplinary teams.
Monitors and evaluates patient response to medical nutrition therapy using specific goals and determines change if indicated.
Performs patient, family, and care giver education related to nutritional therapy and incorporates best method of learning style and communication into sessions.
Supports the development and revision of nutrition related department tools, training materials, policies, and procedures. Remains current on research developments and other methods of practice and incorporates this into current programs and services.
Participates in the evaluation of clinical nutrition products and equipment.
Conducts telemedicine consultation sessions with clients to assess and analyze diet and disease prevention strategies.
Educates and trains interdisciplinary team members, students, and interns.
Fosters teamwork and establishes effective strategies to implement innovative programs which leads to optimal clinical nutrition and financial outcomes. Supports quality improvement, research, and outcome studies. Identifies and communicates opportunities for waste reduction and service improvements. Documents accurately and completely, including appropriate utilization of order writing privileges in electronic medical record. Complies with all regulatory standards, including federal, state, and accrediting agencies and adhere to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies. Participates in and attend departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs, as appropriate. Ensures national program standards are met and always maintained for certified and/or recognized programs, as applicable. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

May request assistance from the lead dietitian as needed with advanced or complex clinical renal nutrition situations.
Provides nutrition education and counseling based on individualized patient needs including nutrient requirements, knowledge and abilities, medical, economic and social situation.
Selects and develops education materials and methods appropriate for individual patient.
Monitors nutritional status, laboratory values, dialysis adequacy, adherence to diet and response to nutrition related medications and therapy to determine appropriate nutrition intervention and recommendations.
Documents nutrition progress notes at least monthly.
Conduct nutrition assessment upon patient admission, 90-day assessment and annually.
Review monthly lab results with each patient and/or ECF and provide patient/ECF with printed patient nutrition report.
Evaluates outcomes and identifies factors that may contribute to undesirable results and documents appropriately.
Participates in patient care conferences at ECF, continuous quality improvement meetings and departmental and interdepartmental meetings as needed.
Travel to assigned facilities and assists in coverage of Nutrition Services in cases of LOA, vacations and census increase.
Responsible for self-professional development and maintenance of necessary credentials.
Qualifications
Qualifications Bachelors degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or similar area required.
Registered Dietitian with at least 12 months clinical experience as required by CMS.
At least 1-year specialized renal experience.
State licensure or certification required if licensure or certification is available in the state where the facility is located.
Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook required as well as functional proficiency with Concerto specific applications within 60 days of employment.

We are seeking a PRN Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD Required) to join our team and support the DOSE Study, a multi-site, five-year clinical trial designed to identify optimal intervention strategies for effective weight loss in children with obesity. This research-based, fully remote position requires approximately 15 hours per week and involves no inpatient clinical responsibilities. The nutritionist will work closely with participating families, through virtual telehealth sessions, to deliver personalized nutrition counseling using a motivational interviewing-based approach focused on seven key health behavior targets: fruits and vegetables, snacks, sugar-sweetened beverages, physical activity, healthy sleep, healthy media use, and engaged parenting. Sessions will follow a structured guide that includes assessing weight changes and progress toward goals, delivering evidence-based nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy for obesity, and identifying barriers to healthy behavior change. In addition to counseling, the nutritionist will adhere to study protocols, monitor intervention fidelity, and collaborate with the research team to ensure successful implementation of all study phases. Approximately five hours per week will be dedicated to administrative tasks and attending relevant meetings.
The ideal candidate will hold a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) credential, with Tennessee licensure preferred (or willingness to obtain if hired). Previous experience applying motivational interviewing techniques to counsel families, particularly those with high social needs or from rural backgrounds, is essential, and research experience is preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment are critical. Scheduling flexibility is required, as the position includes two evening counseling sessions per week (approximately five hours each) and the possibility of one Saturday morning session per month. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on families across middle Tennessee, as the study will enroll 450 children between the ages of 5 and 17 and their parents or caregivers. The intervention will be delivered via telehealth and supported by an online, on-demand platform.

Resident and Patient Interaction:
Provide excellent customer service to residents, patients, and families, responding to questions and special requests promptly and courteously.
Help residents and patients with meal-related needs, such as serving beverages, providing additional utensils, or addressing dietary concerns.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with cooks, dietary aides and supervisors, and other kitchen staff to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of meal service.
Assist with kitchen duties, including food preparation and setup for meals.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in food service or a healthcare environment is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and visitors.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures.
