Our nurses get to work collaboratively with physicians and act as the go-between for the physician and the patient. You will get to travel to different hospitals and Red Cross sites. We do the following procedures: plasma exchange, red cell exchange leukapheresis, stem cell harvests, photopheresis, therapeutic phlebotomies, platelet reductions, and white blood cell depletion.
Key Responsibilities:
You will perform Apheresis procedures autonomously in multiple settings, including critical care, emergency room, and freestanding outpatient centers.
Perform venipunctures, access central venous catheters, and access vortex and bard ports.
Perform all phases of therapeutic apheresis procedures (plasma exchange, red cell exchange, platelet, and white cell reduction, photopheresis, and hematopoietic progenitor cell collection), to ensure safe and appropriate care of the patient and explain, as needed, the procedures for patients and their family and other attending healthcare professionals.
Act as a consultant to external health care personnel about clinical apheresis.
Assess patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis, prior to and during procedures, utilizing the nursing process, laboratory testing results, and other clinically significant procedures.
Coordinate closely with physicians and nurses at a variety of hospitals to arrange therapeutic apheresis treatments and facilitate coordinated care.
Evaluate patient medication for compatibility and safety of apheresis procedure and determine when to contact the physician.
Assemble, restock, QC, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
The American Red Cross will provide all necessary training. No experience is required.
Standard Schedule: Variable 1st shift Monday to Friday- 40 hrs per week - Rotating on calls
Qualifications:
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse and CPR certification is required.
Bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and work experience.

OEPR is responsible for ensuring DOHMH is in a constant state of readiness as well as preparing NYC's healthcare system to respond to any type of emergency.
Bureau Overview
OEPR's Bureau of Healthcare and Community Readiness (BHCR) streamlines external partner engagement to launch a synchronized approach to building local capacity to respond and recover from disasters through community engagement; healthcare coalition planning, technical assistance programming, and operations, to best align our efforts across sectors while strengthening situational awareness and information-sharing. This Bureau also works to coordinate across NYC and with NYS partners to develop a crisis standards of care framework, continuing to work on infectious disease preparedness and medical surge planning, and developing robust mechanisms for program evaluation for continuous improvement. Leveraging technology, data and partner communications this bureau will support healthcare and community programs using preparedness and response applications, providing operational support for event coordination across 500+ healthcare and community partners.
DOHMH, as the recipient of an annual Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) grant award, partners and contracts with various health care sectors to increase the preparedness level of the overall healthcare system, including but not limited to: all NYC hospitals nursing homes and adult care facility associations, geographic based coalitions, and a number of subject matter expert coalitions such as the Pediatric Disaster Coalition. The program also works to enhance systems level readiness by addressing jurisdictional planning and response gaps with healthcare partners and sister agencies at the city and state level.
The Clinical Readiness and Decision Support unit incorporates science and evidence base into the Agency's approach to public health preparedness programming, policy, and strategy. This unit supports Citywide and Regional special pathogen and medical surge planning, implements analytic strategies to support decision-making and evaluates their impact for public health preparedness programs. They also provide clinical expertise and direction to healthcare and community readiness programs.
Job Description
DOHMH has an opening for a Nurse Specialist. This position will oversee clinical planning and subject matter support for non-acute healthcare sectors to improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities. They will also be part of the Health Department's incident command system leadership during public health emergencies. They will report to the Medical Director.
Duties:
Provide scientific and clinical support for the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) Bureau of Healthcare and Community Readiness (BHCR) programs and activities, including activities that support the NYC Health Care Coalition and NYC DOHMH Community Preparedness Program.
Participate in DOHMH Incident Command System (ICS) in a leadership role in the Healthcare System Support Branch; support development of emergency response groups during preparedness phase by leading or contributing to planning, training, and exercises in order to ensure prepared and functional incident response.
Lead development of a Pharmacy Preparedness Program to improve pharmacy partnerships and communications before, during and after emergencies.
Support medical countermeasure planning and coordinate with Bureau of Emergency Field Operations and the Bureau of Immunizations to support planning for community partner and healthcare delivery system involvement in emergency vaccination and mass prophylaxis campaigns.
Lead pharmacy GIS and analyses with a focus on mitigating health disparities during public health emergencies by improving access to pharmacy and healthcare services.
Support planning to address corrective actions to strengthen the continuum of care for future pandemics with a focus on care transitions and home/community-based care models, as well as to prepare for other disasters such as severe weather events and power outages.

The Nursing Manger is responsible for the supervision of physical health support services provided by PCHC to the Southeast Region of Pennsylvania as its Health Care Coordination Unit (HCQU). This position includes the supervision of PCHC nurses. The Nursing Manger is responsible to ensure responsiveness to all clinical requests for support as well as the quantity and quality of work produced by nursing staff. The nursing manager will work with the Director of PCHC, the Administrative Entities (AE) of Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties, the SE Regional Office of Developmental Programs, and the Bureau of Autism Services (BAS)to determine the scope of PCHC projects. The Nursing Manager will assign nursing staff and ensure satisfaction with PCHC services; responsibilities include state wide and grant related activities. The Nursing Manager will work cooperatively with internal PCHC staff to coordinate activities. PCHC will provide payment for membership fees for the state and national Developmental Disabilities Nurses' Associations. PCHC will also provide payment for registrations fees for the National Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA) conference (when fiscally possible according to PCHC guidelines.)
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of all nursing activities through direct supervision of all PCHC nurses
Responsible for the supervision of clinical support services provided by PCHC
Coordinate regional nurse network meetings providing quarterly updates and presentations
Provide support to residential provider agencies as needed (IE training, team meetings, assessments)
Interface with community health providers, managed care companies, hospitals
Obtain certification in developmental disabilities nursing (within two years of employment and maintain developmental disabilities nursing certification (CDDN); once obtained PCHC guidelines outline one-time reimbursement upon certification
Provide liaison and support for student nurses and other students who may be completing internships, masters' level projects or dissertations
Responsible for all recruiting, training, and supervision of nursing department; Identify training needs and develop as necessary
Adept in all aspects of training, supervision, project management, and conflict resolution
Provide continuity of services between departments and the community health system
Participate in meetings and trainings as requested
Participates in PCHC Manager's Meetings
Participates in Administrative Entity and State ID/A meetings as required
Coordinate internal reports for PCHC and PMHCC management as required
Ensure a positive working environment between department and all PCHC
Ensure timely reporting and follow through

Skills Required:
Nursing training and clinical nursing skills
Program administrative and supervisory skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience in working with people with I/DD an Autism as well as support staff and families
Education and Experience:
Five years experience in a management setting
Registered Nurse (RN) and valid Pennsylvania Nursing License
Five years working with individuals with ID/A, their families and support staff, CDDN preferred
Experience with supervision and time management
Valid PA driver's license and use of insured vehicle during working hours.
