No work-life balance: Example - your shift may be 11am to 9pm; in rare cases I've been assigned 9am to 9pm. No support from management: expressed interest in moving up through the ranks, but has provided zero support. Safety First Program: Very randomly enforced and constant safety issues. One employee got injured while the manager was servicing a customer. The manager continued servicing the customer until they were done with them before turning their attention to the injured employee.

What do you like best about Publix's CEO and the leadership team?

Who is the CEO? I have been with the company for almost two years now, and I have not seen or heard as to who this person is. There is more emphasis on "Mr. George" on how he started the company.

How would you improve Publix's culture?

The culture is that the customer is always first, and I have found that the employees are last. Lack of personal protective equipment at times, dish sink won't hold water and drains out - no request to repair it has been placed. Temperature probes for the rotisserie chicken was broken for about three weeks before it was submitted to be repaired. Chill blaster probes not working now; there seems to be no intention of getting that repaired. Meat slicer will continue to run at random times when in the off position.

How did you prepare for the Publix interview?

There is not much to their interview process. Be yourself and confident.

What brings you the most joy at Publix?

When it is time to clock out to go home.

For my area, it is competitive against local retail stores. My store starts below average when compared to other Publix markets.

Employees can't afford to shop at Publix. Employees are made out to be the "villan" when customers behave badly - the motto is "treat customers like royalty" no matter the situation.

How did you prepare for the Publix interview?

My initial interview lasted about 10 minutes - I ended up calling corporate about the interview procedure - they called store manager who stated he was too busy that day to conduct a thorough interview. I got a 2nd interview with the CS manager and was hired. For the first 3 years my experience went downhill due to the store manager's micromanagement but I stuck it out to my 5th year - can't wait to get out of there. BTW I was 69 years old when hired - they don't respect older employees.

Leaving at the end of my shift.

The cons of working for Publix might have to be the evaluations and pay increases. Pay increases no longer happen every 6 months and now are 1 year apart, the increase is also a percentage and never enough from what is scored on the evaluations.

There are so many ways to grow in different departments, they give you stock after approximately a year (I think it’s like 1250 hours or something I could be wrong) and after 3 years it’s yours to keep. They give 12 weeks maternity and paternity leave with some of it being paid.

Pros of working at Publix

Amazing benefits, I wish I started when I was 16 years old. Usually, 2 pay raises a year. Quarterly bonuses based on store performance. Managers tend to be tough but fair and easy to approach. Made long lasting friendships.

Cons of working at Publix

Very difficult to get good working employees. Work-life balance was awful. Promotions are hard to come by no matter how good of an employee or how much knowledge you have.
