Publix Benefits

If you’re thinking about working for Publix, you’re probably wondering what their health benefits and other benefits are for full-time employees. Publix states that they believe their obligation goes beyond customer service to shoppers and extends to providing great benefits and support for their associates.

Publix benefits extend, in many situations, beyond the employee and include family members, those who are retired, and sometimes even stockholders.

Core Benefits for Eligible Publix Associates

A short answer, which isn’t too short, is that Publix offers the following core benefits to their employees who qualify.

  • Employee stock ownership plan

  • The ability to purchase additional shares of stock

  • Annual holiday cash bonus

  • 401(k) retirement savings with company match

  • Group health plan

  • Prescription benefits

  • Group dental plan

  • Group vision plan

  • Free flu shots

  • Credit union membership

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • Service awards

  • Employee assistance program

  • Opportunities for advancement

But there is more. Some full-time associates also qualify for the following benefits.

  • Vacation pay

  • Paid holidays and holiday exchange

  • Company-paid life insurance (includes accidental death and dismemberment benefits)

  • Bereavement pay

  • Jury duty pay

  • Long-term disability plan

And, believe it or not, it doesn’t end there. There are many opportunities for employees to advance with training, mentorship programs, some paid schooling opportunities, etc. There are also discounts on goods and services, free parking, and some people even qualify for free lunches.

Health Insurance at Publix

It is important to note that while Publix does have a great health insurance plan that includes dental and vision, this is for people working 30-40 hours weekly, so you must be considered full-time to get insurance benefits.

This can be difficult for some people because Publix is often only a part-time job for many. If health insurance, and any other benefits, are important to you, you must understand you’ll have to work full-time or close to it to get your benefits. Limited and part-time won’t cut it, and you won’t have their benefit opportunities.

Publix Discount Program

If you’re wondering about discounts at Publix, being an employee won’t get you discounts on groceries as there is a very small mark-up on food in the first place. But Publix does offer a discount program that gives you special discounts and some exclusive offers from around 200 vendors.

We couldn’t find much information online from employees who have used this offer, but the company does state that the vendor list is updated regularly, so it could be a good deal for people who like to bargain shop.

Publix Paid Time Off

Another one of the big concerns people have when they’re applying for a new job is how much time off they’re going to get and if that time off is paid. According to reports from employees online, time off is one of the most important, if not the most important, benefits for employees.

Typically, you will receive 0-10 years of paid vacation and sick time a year. People who have worked for the company longer than ten years or in salaried positions may have a different schedule for their PTO.

To sum it up, Publix offers some great benefits and a pretty inclusive package to its employees, but it also needs to be stated that those benefits don’t apply to people who work less than a predefined number of hours a year.

This typically means that part-time employees do not qualify for many of the benefits. However, if it's the benefits you want, you should make sure that you let any hiring manager or recruiter know that you’re interested in full-time work.
