Shannon is currently the Chief Marketing Officer for Publix Employees Federal Credit Union (PEFCU). She is responsible for the vision and leadership for all marketing-led initiatives, including marketing, business development, brand management, and social and digital media, and serves as the chief spokesperson for the credit union. In addition, Shannon drives public relations, communications and member outreach programs. Previously, Shannon served as Director of Customer Care and Social Media at Publix Super Markets, Inc. In this position, Shannon had several areas of responsibility including communication, public relations, customer service, social media, and analytics & reporting. For more than fifteen years, Shannon has been in a public relations leadership position with Publix Super Markets and has played a key role in the organization’s social media presence as well as public and media relations strategies.Shannon is a highly sought-after public speaker and has presented at numerous workshops and conferences in a wide variety of market segments.

I was presenting at a digital transformation thought leadership conference a few years ago, and I received one of the best compliments of my career. I was told I was able to convey complicated, technical topics in a “non-propeller head” way. This is one of the main reasons why I am able to bring IT and “the business” together to break the technology silos that work counter to using technology to create true business value.

In addition to turning the propeller on and off, I am a stickler for simplicity in an IT world that loves to manufacture complexity. So, in the spirit of simplicity, here are 5 quick things about me and my work.

1) I didn’t take the normal route to CIO. I came up through the software engineering ranks where collaboration, building consensus, and understanding business needs in order to drive true value are commonplace.

2) I have 6 kids and have actually used Robotics Process Automation bots to manage the credentials across all their devices. The propeller was clearly on for this one and shows I can work in any domain.

3) My unique combination of business acumen and technological knowledge was rewarded earlier this year when I was given the responsibility of marketing, in addition to my CIO responsibilities, in order to advance data-driven, targeted marketing across a $10B organization.

4) 17 years ago, I started working in the Credit Union space. I came from an organization that has the reputation of being cutting edge. Hands down, the Credit Union space is 10 times more cutting edge and willing to push the envelope at a quicker pace. It shocked me too! When I compare notes with my colleagues in other industries, they are amazed at the pace of change and collaboration I get to experience.

5) To sum up my job in one sentence - I create meaningful business value through the effective use of innovative and simple technology...and I love every minute of it!
