Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and the Director of Laboratory Services, and Laboratory Manager. Assists technical personnel with assigned tasks, instrument maintenance, and inventory. Receives patients, correctly identifies patients, collects specimens from patients, transports specimens, and processes specimens.

Identifying appropriate priority of tasks, establishes and maintains lines of communication and rapport within the department and other hospital personnel

Receives in and distributes reagents and supplies
Assists in Medical Center sponsored blood drives
Adheres to confidentiality of patient information with interdepartmental and external request Demonstrates ethical, honest and professionalism with all internal and external consumers
Ensures accuracy with specimen receiving, issuing blood products, and performs instrument maintenance following standard procedures
Uses department equipment (telephone, computers, software) appropriately
Ensures timely turnaround of patient results (turnaround times, unfinished work list(s), distribution of results, communication with consumers)
Follows up on internal and external departmental request
Participates in educational opportunities and identifies area of departmental process improvement Correct tests are drawn and collected and orders are checked against computer system for accuracy and discrepancies resolved
Performs specimen collection as needed
Adheres to envoi mental standards for patient/visitor/staff safety
Practices hand washing and sanitation practices
Reports unsafe conditions and responds appropriately to all codes and drills
Practices standard precautions with all chemical and specimen handling
Stocks and re-orders supplies
Cleans and disinfect work areas, refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, plasma thawers, etc.
Education/Experience Requirements
Required: Minimum 2 year degree in Science - such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry
Preferred: Phlebotomy work experience, lab assistant work experience, or other healthcare experience preferred

Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care including assisting the physician in diagnostic and/or invasive cardiac, electrophysiology, structural heart, and peripheral procedures. Provides cross campus coverage as needed. Cross trains for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, and the Invasive Cardiology Holding and Recovery Area to meet department and patient needs.
Job Duties
Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated supplies and equipment. Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient. Maintains medical/surgical asepsis.
Performs hemodynamic and physiologic monitoring during routine and complex cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures; assesses changes and appropriately treats.
Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; documents and takes appropriate actions.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to scrub, monitor, and circulate for all diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, peripheral, or structural heart procedures. Assists and anticipates the needs of the physician.
Demonstrates effective arterial and venous sheath removal skills, including proper use of mechanical closure devices and manual compression.
Utilizes standard work to maintain efficiency. Promotes cost-effective care through maintaining and monitoring appropriate use of inventory and par levels.
Knows the location, operation, and care of equipment. Problem solves, trouble shoots, and takes corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment.

We're seeking a certified Cytotechnologist II who will support Emory Healthcare's mission of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring, and integrity. Prepares and stains cytologic material for routine procedures; evaluates examination results for validity and reports results as prescribed by standard procedures.
May prepare specimens for cytopathologic examination.
Evaluates cytologic material for carcinoma or other diagnoses and completes all daily assigned screening.
Reviews quality of staining and the adequacy of the specimen to support an adequate diagnosis.
In complex cases, evaluates all information available and determines whether analysis results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist.
Assists the Pathologist and Radiologist on fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures and is competent in giving an adequacy assessment.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science.
Other bachelors degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of cytotechnology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
Education Exception: Bachelors degree may be waived for a Cytotechnolgist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelors degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
At least two years of experience. Experience in Gynecological, Non-gynecological and FNA cytology preferred.
Certification as CT (ASCP) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology which meets Georgia's Department of Human Resources requirements.

Cath Lab Technician Full Time Days Position Summary
Performs direct and indirect functions in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Assists all Physicians/staff with clinical and technical aspects of cardiovascular care, performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Knowledge of set up and monitoring of IABP/ Impella, assists with set-up, insertion and care of temporary and permanent pacemakers, and all other necessary equipment.
Education Required: Graduate of formal program in Radiology, Cardiovascular technology or equivalent. Basic EKG course

POSITION SUMMARY
A Medical Technologist is responsible for conducting laboratory tests which provide information to physicians for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of diseases in patients.
Essential Functions:

• Participates in hospital initiatives and in departmental goals set by the Laboratory Director and staff.
• Interacts professionally with laboratory management, laboratory personnel, physicians, hospital personnel, patients and customers to provide optimal patient care.
• Works well with other laboratory employees to maintain an environment of teamwork.
• Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres OSHA and TOSHA safety regulations
• Positively identifies patients, labels specimens and enters results using two unique identifiers. Maintains working knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Maintains current knowledge and adheres to hospital policies and state, federal and other regulatory requirements
• Responds appropriately to tests with a priority of STAT, call results or timed specimens
• Responsible for training new employees and students as assigned.
• Performs high-complexity testing
• Notifies nursing and/or physician of critical lab values with complete documentation on report
• Responsible for instrument calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting problems.
• Performs quality control as outlined by departmental procedures.
• Reviews pending and outstanding reports and resolves outstanding specimens

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education / Training:
• BS degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
• Valid State of Tennessee Medical Technologist license

As a key member of the care team, you will operate and maintain complex equipment specific to the cardiac cath lab environment and apply your technical and clinical expertise to deliver patient-centered care. Your responsibilities will draw on your background in radiological and cardiovascular procedures.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of all equipment within the department. Maintains a knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized for procedures in the area of responsibility.
Assists physician with scrub duties utilizing sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination, set-up trays and prepare and position patient.
Assists physician in circulator role by positioning the patient to obtain digital films and by giving medications / contrast (if tech/RN certified) under MD supervision in accordance with departmental policy.
Assists physician in the recorder/monitor role documenting the case, balancing calibration and operating physiologic recorder and calculates and reports patient information from data gathered in the cardiac cath lab.
Reviews patient chart for appropriate information such as indicators which may indicate risk to the patient, maintains the holding area and assists in transporting patients.
Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
Maintains controlled drug inventory according to prescribed controlled drug policy. Assures that the crash cart and drug box are accurately supplied and dated. Recognizes emergency situations and can initiate code procedures or administer first aid or CPR as needed.
Prepare and administer contrast media or medications under supervision of the Cardiologist.
Assists in maintaining inventory and ordering supplies.
Actively participates in product evaluation to determine best and most cost effective product.
Notifies coordinator when supplies are low.
Maintains daily work log and participates in the follow-up on patients.
Rotates in an on-call status.
Actively participates in performance improvement process to include evaluating, reporting and follow-up recommendations.
