About Our Team The Above Ground Testing (AGT) Accelerator Operations (1332) department is responsible for the operation of the Saturn, HERMES III, and SPHINX pulsed power accelerators. The primary objective of the department is to provide an applied research environment for the study of radiation effects on materials and electronics. The three accelerators generate electrical pulses of up to 20 million Volts and up to 12 million Amperes with nanosecond duration in order to create extremely intense pulsed radiation environments for the study of radiation effects sciences. Department 1332 also conducts pulsed power research and development to: improve radiation source fidelity, increase the output and fluence, as well as to improve the overall reliability and reproducibility of the accelerators. Focus will be pre-test set up and post-test teardown of fixtures to include repair of same if required. What you'll do all day: Perform operations involving explosives and hazardous chemicals while using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided. Perform machining tasks on a variety of different materials, including metal components, polymeric materials, solid propellants, and explosives. Typical duties will include missile disassembly operations, and component dissection operations to remove bulk propellant and explosives samples for physical and chemical testing. Perform precision weight and dimensional measurement of test specimens using dial calipers and analytical balances prior to physical testing of propellants.
