Quality assistants are responsible for following prescribed standard practices to provide general assistance to a group involved in various quality operations, procedures, and document control. They provide support and operate equipment such as computers, word processing, graphics, and occasionally specialized quality instruments and other equipment. Quality assistants earn a median salary of $33,000 annually or $16 per hour.

Quality assistants primarily ensure that products in the production meet the safety and specification standards necessary for them to be forwarded to the last production stage. They analyze nearly finished product samples daily for quality, durability, safety, and known product specifications before the final stage of production. They also evaluate the materials routinely used during production, the work environment, and components during production by running specific tests of quality.

Quality assistants typically hold an associate's degree in a similar role from an accredited university. They are expected to have some experience as a quality assistant or in a similar industry. Some employers prefer candidates with the ability to organize and prioritize with changing requirements as well as having strong attention to detail.
