Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact. The Lilly Medicine Foundry QA Engineer is responsible for oversight of Facilities, Utilities, Maintenance, and Equipment (FUME) and computer systems (CSQ) within the Foundry and assures compliance with quality systems and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This oversight includes supporting drug substance manufacturing, central utilities, warehouse, and laboratory facilities. This role is part of a team supporting the design, construction, and qualification at the Foundry as this new manufacturing site is built at a green field site. **Responsibilities:** The Foundry QA Engineer provides technical guidance and leadership in a variety of interactions with business and operations personnel. More specific examples include: + Provide consultation and interpretation of local procedures, corporate standards, and regulatory expectations. + Review and approve applicable procedures to ensure compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements. + Assess potential gaps between local procedures and corporate standards and facilitate remediation efforts. + Influence and oversee Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) and Computer Systems + Validation (CSV) of GMP assets including review and approval of associated deliverables (protocols, drawings, test documents, etc.). + Influence and oversee Maintenance/Calibration programs within the Foundry, including benchmarking with other Lilly sites. + Evaluate potential product quality impact for any GMP-related incident (deviation or change control), perform initial assessment, and support the investigations to ensure proper root cause analysis (RCA) and establishment of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). + Escalate and/or initiate notification to management for departures of critical nature and assure issues are addressed appropriately. + Ensure the Foundry is audit ready at all times and participate in internal/external inspections. **Basic Requirements:** + Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field (e.g. biology, chemistry, computer science, etc. with a minimum of 3 years previous FUME engineering experience supporting cGMP manufacturing (QA, TSMS, operations, engineering, auditing, etc.). **Additional Preferences:** + Demonstrated relevant experience in a cGMP facility + Prior experience in C&Q, CSQ, and/or CSV + Proficient with computer systems including Microsoft Office, electronic document management systems (EDMS), Kneat, Trackwise, Maximo, etc. + Demonstrated solid judgment and initiative + Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and to problem solve effectively + Ability to work under time pressure and exert good judgment in special situations + Must exhibit good teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills sustained over time **Other Information:** + Initial location at Lilly Technology Center, Indianapolis. + Permanent location at the new Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana. Process Automation is core to delivering a right first time facility start up and continued support of ongoing manufacturing operations into the future. The Advisor Engineer is also responsible for the productivity and mentorship of the employees with the purpose of ensuring that reliable and compliant control applications and systems are used in the manufacturing at Foundry. Additionally, the Advisor Engineer as a key technical expert with partners to influence and implement within the process control organization and across functional disciplines to support the process control technical agenda, business plan priorities, and compliance objectives. In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project (startup expected 2025 to 2028), automation engineering roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to a full scale GMP manufacturing through start up. The Engineer - Automation Engineering will work as a member of the Automation Engineering Department at Eli Lilly, Foundry. The engineer will provide automation support for one or more operating areas across site and/or for capital projects. Process Automation is core to delivering a right first time facility start up and continued support of ongoing manufacturing operations into the future. The Engineer is a key technical expert with partners to influence and implement within the process control organization and across functional disciplines to support the process control technical agenda, business plan priorities, and compliance objectives. The engineer will provide Automation, Process Controls and Data Historian expertise and support historian systems operating areas across site. The Engineer will also function as the main Data Architect to ensure proper data contextualization and democratization of operational data for compliance and data analytics. In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project (startup expected 2025 to 2028), automation engineering roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to a full scale GMP manufacturing through start up. Key Objectives/Deliverables: • Technical Expertise • Mentor process control team, including design, controls philosophy, implementation and commissioning • Process control work implementation and coordination • Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Project Plan. Operational Excellence • Technically collaborate with Site Area leads and System Integrator including Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, DCS Application Software, Test Specifications to ensure Data historization and architecture is considered. • Provide periodic status updates to Project Management • Work with Engineering, Operations and many cross functional groups to trouble shoot issues, making changes to the site data historian system (OSI PI) in line with site change control procedures and site standards, responding to system events and performing routine system maintenance checks • Maintain Data Historian System health and respond to issues as they arise • Develop standard operating procedures, work instructions and other job aids to ensure the appropriate level of documentation is in place to train on, maintain and operate OSI PI, alarm management and alarm notification systems. • Provide subject matter expertise on data historian systems design, development, installation, testing, validation, and lifecycle support. • Ensure solutions are delivered by system Integrators, equipment vendors and others that can be integrated to the site data historian per the site standards and data management strategies. This includes developing requirements for the system in line with industry and Lilly standards. • Design, configuration, and testing of the platform (OSI PI).
