Quality Assurance Line Technician
Reason for Existence
Quality Assurance exists as an operational support system between Sunset Farm Foods' management and regulatory bodies relating to food safety and the customer relating to specifications. The Quality Assurance Line Technician position exists to facilitate the Quality Assurance system by assisting Quality Assurance Supervisors in day-to-day activities such as addressing food safety concerns in a real-time manner while providing administrative support such as entering monitoring, documenting, and reporting on specification related tasks specific to food safety and quality. This position will: ensure the proper monitoring and implementation for all food safety requirements and report any determination of variance and non-conformance back to Quality Assurance management to address with Quality Assurance Supervisors. Tasks include performing checks and different tasks and documenting results and information in an accurate and legible manner. This position is also responsible for sampling, micros under QA Supervisor and QA Manager guidance.
This position covers the monitoring and documentation of tasks required on specific lines as defined by the area specified by the Supervisor or Manager, and reporting information back to management in a timely and accurate manner.
Specific Accountabilities
This position reports to the Quality Assurance Lead Technician.
This position works with Production Line Lead and the Production Supervisor to ensure all relevant data to production, food safety, and plant operations is captured and processed for management use.
From time to time, this position may function as the back-up personnel for the Quality Assurance
Supervisor. This position is redundant through the QA manager and QA supervisors and QA admin.
Quality
This position is the backbone to the quality systems by collecting data and observations and relating them back to management whether operational or Quality Assurance to determine effectiveness of Quality systems.
People
This position is responsible for communicating expectations and operational data relating to quality to management with accurate and timely data and is responsible for ensuring that management is aware of needs and trends identified through the data for both food safety and operations based on data managed.
Cost Control
Whenever possible, this position will seek to reduce costs when not in conflict with any food safety, regulatory, or customer specification and will seek to identify potential savings through food safety innovations, non-conformance prevention, and operations.
Education and Experience Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Intermediate computer skills required with emphasis on Excel and Word
Ability to analyze data and make determinations and decision based on information
Critical thinking skills and ability to work independently
40 WPM or better
Physical Requirements
Ability to work overtime and weekends (as needed).
Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or balance; reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel or handle objects; talk and hear.
Climb steps and ladders.
Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Specific visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Frequently exposed to wet and cold environments (45 Degrees F) and hot environments (95 Degrees F)

Pre- Operational/Operational
Perform Pre-Operational Inspection of equipment by visually checking for residue remaining from previous production
Tag equipment that has failed inspection and communicate issues with Sanitation Supervisor and/or Plant Management
Verify Employees are operating in a sanitary manner
Monitor finished product to ensure quality standards are met and product is maintained in an acceptable manner for food safety and regulatory compliance
Ensure operations has facilities in which to sanitize or sterilize equipment
Verify that all electronic scales are checked for accuracy by operations
Verify metal detectors and code printers are being checked for functionality and correct information.
Record data required by position in an accurate and timely manner
Perform analytical and microbial testing as necessary and relay information to relevant personnel
Monitor labeling line for correct product label application and metal detector operation
Calibrate thermometers to ensure each one is within 2°F of second target temperature
Process Review
HACCP records for completeness prior to turning into management
Ensure that all products receive the scheduled process for sterility or microbial intervention in accordance with HACCP requirements
End Item Examination
Identify and document best practices and procedures
Perform Food Safety Inspections
Walk the production floor, assigned to ensure proper production, storage, and packaging standards with a focus on safety and sanitation
Communicate and identify to leadership on how to reduce or eliminate defects and improve quality in produced goods through development or adoption of industry best practices
Ensure proper rotation and storage temperature for raw ingredients and finished goods based on assigned area
Communicate with maintenance on equipment in need of repair
Ensure maintenance and production logs are current, updated, and completed as necessary
Perform line production checks and inspections
Ensure proper audit trail can be followed for product in case of future recalls or other issues
Recording of official documents and production data.
Monitoring compliance with plant policies and good manufacturing practices by plant personnel.
Assist in the collection of technical test data.
Ensure company compliance with USDA regulations.

Perform Pre-Operational Inspection of equipment by visually checking for residue remaining from previous production
Tag equipment that has failed inspection and communicate issues with Sanitation Supervisor and/or Plant Management

What You'll Do:
* Develop working knowledge of all the Valdosta manufacturing site's laboratory methods to support the business units and operating areas.

Responsibilities

Record the following: preventative maintenance activities, quality inspection data, equipment downtime, production output and other key metrics
Adhere to safe work practices, good manufacturing practices, and participate in safe behavior observation programs
Communicate effectively when issues arise that prevent operating to company standards/procedures
Meet or exceed performance metrics including efficiency, production, and downtime
Perform mathematical calculations as needed
Ensure quality product is sent to customers by completing hourly quality checks
Inspect raw materials against quality standards before loading them
Interact with team members from various departments (Quality Assurance, Maintenance, etc.) to maximize output and efficiency
Attend shift, team, and plant meetings during their scheduled times
Measure and continuously improve the line operation as a team and with other technicians
Cross-train in other areas to support operations during downtimes
Maintain your workstation in an organized and clean manner ensuring safety and good manufacturing practices
Focus on safe work practices and high quality while executing duties with a sense of urgency
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
Prior experience in clean manufacturing preferred
Ability to work the scheduled shift which includes start-up and handover meetings
Exposure to high-speed production and/or basic maintenance is preferred
