JOB SUMMARY: Performs duties of Quality Assurance Specialist, quality assurance inspections and NDT on board ships during ship repair operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs quality assurance audits or checks on the work of welders, fitters and pipefitters, assuring the use of correct procedures, materials, processes, and technical instructions. Conducts inspections of work areas and other general QA inspections (checkpoints).
Performs non-destructive inspections on all components as required by NAVSEA specifications, blueprints and work procedure requirements to include NDT inspections for piping and structural fit-up and final weld including but not limited to 5X visual, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle and ultrasonic inspections as needed.
Attends production meetings as necessary to keep up-to-date on job progress and works with shop superintendents to resolve problems and possible negative workmanship trends. Keeps MHI NDT Examiner and Project Managers informed.
Observe sub-contractor NDT inspections and reviews sub-contractor welding and NDT procedures for compliance prior to submission for MARMC.
Records, organizes and evaluates test results and generates NDT and QA inspection reports.
Maintains equipment and assures calibration for tests to be performed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules, calls in and conducts preliminary and final "G" point NDT checkpoints.
Provides OJT for other Quality Assurance personnel.
Assists NDT Level III as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Two years related technical experience.
Complete all requirements of Quality Assurance Specialist.
ASNT Certification preferred but not required.
Must have documentation to support requirements have been met to achieved VT, PT, UT and MT NDT requirements. Must have met requirements for Level II in at least 3 testing techniques.
Knowledge of shipboard structures and systems required. One year NDT experience in ship repair industry preferred.
Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation, and QA systems
Knowledge of welding process and documented Ultrasonic experience a plus.
Must have the ability to operate or learn to use magnetic yokes, ultrasonic equipment, magnifiers, machinist's rules, Bridge Cam and fillet gauges.

1. PURPOSE
To support quality compliance and production readiness efforts within the Modules Division by performing visual inspections, procedure adherence checks, and documentation verification while providing supplemental fitting and welding support through TIGER Team assistance when required to ensure continuity of WIP modules.
2. POSITION SUMMARY
This role supports execution of critical quality checkpoints and production alignment in modular shipbuilding programs including CVN (Aircraft Carrier), VCS (Virginia-Class Submarine), and ORP (Columbia-Class Submarine). The QC Technician ensures compliance to welding, structural fabrication, and traceability requirements while contributing to production support wherever needed to maintain schedule performance.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Perform visual weld inspections per NAVSEA and Newport News Shipbuilding PPD guidelines.
Perform “in‑process” audits to verify work execution adheres to qualified procedures and inspection hold‑points.
Verify OQE documentation compliance and production traveler traceability.
Monitor work sequencing to ensure readiness for inspection and material availability.
Document, classify, and report nonconformances and support corrective action activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Four (4) years of experience with US Navy diesel engine applications, specifically FM-Pielstick, FMOP, Caterpillar, MTU and/or Isotta Fraschini.
Three (3) years of experience supporting the US Navy DRS Program. To include experience with the following:

* Working with SPAWAR ISEAs and other technical codes, program/project managers, and SMEs, the Engineering Technician I (Shipboard) will assist with the Shipboard installation and integration of complex audio/visual displays, various communication and electronic warfare systems, related ancillary and computer-based systems onboard naval ships and command centers worldwide.
Accountable For:
* We expect this employee to have experience in and be familiar with work being performed in or around industrial environments such as shipyards and Naval/Coast Guard bases and piers. As well as various and subcontractor Government sites.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
* Must be a U.S. citizen.
* Must have or be able to obtain a minimum security clearance of secret.
* Must have a minimum of 4 years shipboard installation/integration experience.
* Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
* Must have extensive experience in shipboard cableway work and firewatch.
* Must have RF, multi-pin, and fiber connector building experience.
