The Test Engineer plays a crucial role in a dynamic, hands-on environment, supporting the operations team by providing technical support for production. You will be responsible for designing and building new electro-mechanical test equipment for new products, as well as maintaining, repairing, planning for obsolescence, and continuously improving existing test equipment with a strategic focus on automation where applicable. Responsibilities * Develop a thorough understanding of the company's products and all test requirements, focusing on rotary actuators, hydraulic valves, and pressure and temperature switches. * Design, develop, and build new automated electro-mechanical manufacturing and production test equipment for in-house use. * Create electrical schematics/2D Electrical Drawings, specify and purchase all components and materials, find reliable vendors to assist, and write software to design and develop automated test equipment. * Modify existing test equipment hardware and/or software to accommodate new or changed requirements. * Service, maintain, and repair test equipment, upgrading or replacing old/obsolete systems as necessary. * Write comprehensive statements-of-work and evaluate/select vendors for test equipment development and fabrication. * Work on electrical panels/controllers/circuit boards of high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems (up to 10,000 PSI). * Handle test equipment that operates at high temperatures (up to 600° F). * Write and perform test system validation and calibration procedures to AS9100 requirements. * Maintain test system documentation to AS9100 requirements. * Ensure a safe environment at all times. Essential Skills * Proficiency in test development, test planning, mechanical testing, and troubleshooting. * Experience with mechanical test fixtures, hydraulics, pneumatics, test procedures, and test equipment. * Ability to perform validation and mechanical tasks effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. * Experience with creating test plans, test development, and writing test procedures. * Experience with test validation and setup. * At least 3 years of experience in aerospace testing and development. Work Environment The Test Engineer will work on the manufacturing floor, reporting daily to a lead test engineer, a test scheduler, and a test technician. The standard work hours begin at 7 am, with some flexibility if needed. This is a 6-month contract expected to be extended, with potential opportunities for a full-time position if available. Compliance & Reliability: Ensure compliance with industry standards (OCPP, ISO 15118, UL, SAE J1772/NACS, etc.). Document and report test findings, failure trends, and recommendations to improve product quality. Oversee charger stress testing, environmental durability testing, and failure rate analysis to identify weak points. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine the charger deployment process and improve long-term reliability. Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on experience in hardware or software testing, preferably in EV charging, power electronics, or embedded systems. Strong understanding of EV chargers, electrical systems, networking protocols, and firmware validation processes. Experience testing OCPP-compliant chargers and validating software updates. Excellent troubleshooting skills with diagnostic tools, logs, and debugging methods. Familiarity with electrical safety, power systems, and charger reliability testing. Ability to document detailed test results and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues. Willingness to work on-site in Santa Monica, LA, conducting real-world tests. Experience using load simulators, multimeters, and other electrical testing tools.
