BlackSky is looking for a talented and creative Senior Image Annotation/Quality Control Analyst to support the development, operation, and capability evolution of Spectra AI, BlackSky's cutting edge AI/ML Platform. As part of the machine learning team, you are instrumental in shaping our computer vision products by managing the quality of data that trains AI/ML models. You will help manage and grow the entire labeling process that trains Spectra AI, overseeing remote data labeling teams and actively assessing the quality of trained models, which create critical timely insights for our customers.
While the locations listed in the job posting are ideal, we would love candidates near either our Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA offices. We may also consider remote candidates in certain states.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage data labeling teams, providing oversight for labeling campaigns.
Research for AI product development, identifying geographic areas where objects exist, developing object ontologies, building annotation instructions, and identifying imagery for annotation.
Collaborate with machine learning and product teams to define metrics, assess, and report on the quality of machine learning models in development and production using statistical and quality assurance approaches.
Work with the machine learning and product teams to define and measure the performance of machine learning models against SLAs.
Identify customer requirements and liaise with computer vision team to codify specifications for training datasets.
Create processes, tools, and scripts to manage and track data quality and labeling performance.
Take part in the entire project lifecycle from requirements development to deployment.
Innovate and streamline data annotation processes.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience as a data quality engineer, imagery analyst, GIS analyst, or quality assurance engineer in the space of satellites, computer vision, or machine learning.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in one of the following fields: computer science, GIS, data science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or another scientific field.
Experience interpreting satellite imagery to identify objects, behaviors, or activities and working with GIS datasets.
Hands on experience with annotation platforms such as LabelBox, SuperAnnotate, AWS Sagemaker, or CVAT.
Experience managing remote annotation workforces such as CloudFactory, Hive, or iMerit.
Collaborates well with others and able to communicate ideas to those with other backgrounds.
Experience with quality assurance practices, model testing & evaluation, and computing metrics & statistics from data.
Attention to detail and ability to define, enforce, and follow rigorous process controls for managing data.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with AI advancements in image annotation such as the Segment Anything Model (SAM).
Embeddings and other AI Assistance tools.
Experience writing code and scripts, especially for processing and evaluating large amounts of data.
Proficiency with Python for automation and data manipulation tasks.
Knowledge and experience working in an AWS Cloud environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage small teams.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

The anticipated base salary range for candidates in Seattle, WA is $100,000-115,000 per year. The final compensation package offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on specific background and education. POSITION SUMMARY:
The QC Technician is an integral part of the Food Safety and Quality team and will function as an internal and external auditor for the facility based on company requirements. The QC technician interfaces directly with the QC Supervisor on all quality control and compliance issues and assesses compliance with quality standards and initiatives. This requires working closely with the production department.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Administer Cascade policies and procedures and carry out personnel objectives and programs within the Quality Assurance department.
* Coordinates with Quality and Production Supervisors on various quality issues.
* Conducts daily plant inspections for any GMP/Product Protection violations.
* Assists production in filling out all necessary QC paperwork.
* Monitor defined checks/tests to ensure product conformance on the customer-established cadence.
* Perform laboratory testing according to customer specifications, including, but not limited to, weight checks, leak tests, and oxygen/headspace tests.
* Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues utilizing quality tools (cause and effect, process mapping, statistical methods, etc.) to document corrective actions effectively.
* Document standards in compliance with good manufacturing practices, government entities, and production plans (e.g., USDA, FDA, HACCP, SQF, Organic, Kosher, etc.). Ensure compliance with all regulatory mandates.
* Audit production processes and the food Safety and Quality Management system. Record, document, and evaluate consistency to customer and SQF expectations.
* Responsible for collecting customer samples, external laboratory testing, and internal retain samples.

GENERAL SCOPE: Responsible for performing Quality Control testing and management of finished goods, raw materials, and bottling production batches. This position also supports strategic manufacturing operations plan and objectives; maintains records; supports a safe and healthy work environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform sanitation verification and allergen testing on equipment and other areas as required.
Ensure correct recipe guidelines for products are met during processing.
Collect bottling production samples (first, middle & last units).
Monitor raw materials/ingredients for continued quality, identifying needed replacement products.
Ensure employees are following all Food Safety and worker safety practices, GMPs, and SOPs.
Monitor critical control points (CCP).
Participate in finished goods hold/release system.
Monitor, evaluate, and report analytical results of products and raw materials including altering out of compliance results.
Complete and submit Production Reports accurately and completely at end of each shift.
Assist in investing customer complaints and help resolve quality issues.
Other tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree required in Food Science/Biological Science or similar.
HACCP and SQF certifications or experience preferred.
Advanced math and computer skills (ERP, Excel, Word).
Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees.
Problem solving skills; exercises good judgment in determining best method and procedure to be followed.
REQUIREMENTS
Five (5) or more years of experience in food production environment, manufacturing quality or other related field preferred.
Any combination of education and experience that provides the same expertise.

Duties & Responsibilities
The core responsibility of the QCI is to inspect and report non-conformances in accordance with drawings, inspection checklists or other specifications identified in the quality assurance plan. Daily, the QCI may be engaged in these activities:

The Role
The Quality Control Inspector will be responsible for inspecting all inbound and outbound product to ensure that company quality and dating standards are met. Inspector will work closely with the receiving group to identify any quality issues with incoming product and take the appropriate action. Inspector will also work closely with the Purchasing Department to resolve quality issues. This position reports directly to the Quality Control Supervisor.
